WHY STUDY THIS SUBJECT?
Computer Science is the study of computers and computational systems. It involves the application of computational methods and algorithms to design solutions to solve problems. Computer Science is a discipline that seeks to understand and explore the world around us.
Computer Science has become a necessity in today’s world. Without it, the world would be completely different. It is fun and gives young people huge opportunities in life. It allows them to solve problems, design systems and understand the power and limits of human and machine intelligence. It is a skill that empowers, and that all children should be aware of and have some competence in.
Furthermore, pupils who can think computationally are better able to conceptualise and understand computer-based technology, and so are better equipped to function in modern society.
ASSESSMENT APPROACHES:
If you love flexing your brain and are eager to try various experiments to “hack” together solutions to solve complex problems, a Computer Science course might just be the right course for you!
In S3, pupils will have exposure to and experience:
- Programming in various languages
- Using databases
- Continuing web-development
- Emerging technologies
- Engineering new things out of software to complement their education in
other areas of the curriculum
