COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course offers you the opportunity to study Physical Education at an appropriately challenging level that matches your skills and ability. This course will allow you to improve your practical performance in a range of different activities alongside developing a deeper understanding of the factors that can affect your performance.
National 5 PE is a great opportunity for pupils to improve their performance in a wide range of activities whilst gaining essential knowledge and understanding through a predominantly practical setting.
Performance Skills – Pupils will experience a wide range of different activities within the school curriculum in order to allow them to improve and develop their practical performance to the appropriate level in two different activities.
Factors Impacting on Performance (FIP’s) – Pupils have to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the FIP’s; including development of personal performance, and evaluation of the development process.
Assessment
The Course Assessment consists of two practical assessments ; One Off Performances, done in class time or arranged outside of school hours; and a written Portfolio completed in class time under controlled conditions.
The One Off Performances will be completed in two different activities at a time and venue agreed between the teacher and pupil. Activities available are restricted by both SQA guidelines and our department’s expertise, so please ask a member of the PE Department before making any decisions. These One Off Performances are out of 30 marks each; 60 marks in total, which equates to 50% of the pupils overall grade. The written Portfolio is out of 60 marks and equates to the remaining 50% of the pupils overall grade.
WHAT WILL MY HOME COMMITMENT BE FOR THIS COURSE?
Approximately 1 hour per week will be the minimum expected throughout the year. Students will be encouraged to participate in physical activity out with school hours to aid and support their development and understanding, especially in areas of analysis and development of performance. National 5 students are expected to plan and manage their Portfolios throughout the year (50% of course award)
