WHY STUDY THIS SUBJECT?
Geography allows students to investigate the earth and its people along with studying the features of the earth. This is done from the local area to a global level. Geography also offers students the opportunity to acquire and improve on many key skills needed outside the classroom. This includes field work along with map reading, data collection, ICT, problem solving and reaching a justifiable conclusion.
DESCRIPTION OF COURSE IN S3:
The work in Geography will build on and extend from the work in S1 and S2 which is based on the 3rd Level Experiences and Outcomes. The course will cover the 4th Level experiences and outcomes. Students will study the following topics: Hot and Cold Lands, Shanty Towns, Climate Change, Tropical Storms and Rivers.
ASSESSMENT APPROACHES:
Teachers will gather evidence of progress as part of day-to-day learning. Specific tasks will also be set to assess progress at key points of learning. These will include formal end of topic assessments. The assessments will mirror the format used by the National qualifications in S4
