The S6 Opportunities Programme includes:
Prefect Duties
Pupils who wish to take up a leadership role within the school can apply in May of S5 for a Prefect position in S6. Pupils will have a variety of roles that they will be expected to undertake around the school. More senior roles of Head Boy/Girl and Depute Head Boy/Girl are also available for those who fit the criteria. Pupils who are successful can also complete an SQA Leadership Award.
· House Captains
House captains are also prefects but have a slightly different role. Pupils who undertake these positions will lead their house groups in a variety of activities encouraging pupils to take part from all year groups. They will be expected to promote the positive ethos of the school at events such as assemblies.
· Mentors
Pupils who have an interest in working with pupils in younger year groups can become Mentors. There are a variety of mentor roles available from volunteering with P7 transition, lunchtime or other clubs; working with pupils in the Autism Base or the Enhanced Provision Unit; ‘buddying’ identified pupils; supporting younger pupils with homework. Pupils who become mentors will be expected to also complete an SQA Mentoring Award.
· Subject Ambassadors
Pupils who have a particular interest or skill within a subject area can become subject ambassadors. The roles can be flexible depending on the skills of the pupil and need of the department but can include assisting in departments with younger pupils or supporting teachers in practical subjects such as PE and Hospitality.
· Committees
S6 pupils have the opportunity to join one of our committees such as Social, Fundraising, Sustainability and Yearbook.
· Volunteering
All S6 pupils will be expected to provide a period of Reception duty where timetables allow. In addition pupils can volunteer for other activities such as Rotary Interact and the Befriending Caithness voluntary group. Pupils can also complete an SQA Volunteering Award.
