Artist Statement:

For my zentangle drawing, the idea was to create a strip of ten different sections that faded from lighter to darker patterns. As the sections went on they had to progressively get darker or more complex. I chose to make my zentangle into the shape of an elephant so that it was a little more interesting. For the negative space hand drawing, we had to sketch our hands twice in different poses. We were only supposed to sketch the outline of our hands, leaving the rest of the details to become negative space. Lastly, for the negative space leaves drawing, we had to sketch different leaves we found outside on the same paper and position them so that they created five separate sections. In these sections, we had to add some sort of pattern, color, or seen to fill it and make it into positive space. I chose to make my positive space into a scene, which ended up being forest animals.

For my zentangle drawing, I only used a Sharpie and bristol paper. For my negative space hand drawing, I used a 2H and 4B graphite pencil on a piece of regular drawing paper. Finally, for my negative space leaves drawing I used a fine-tipped Sharpie, watercolors, and a piece of printmaking paper.

At the beginning of my zentangle drawing, I sketched the outline of an elephant, referencing it off of an image. I then filled in this space with various patterns that progressively got darker. For negative space hand drawing, I looked at my hand in two different positions, and sketched the outline but didn't feel anything in. Finally, for my negative space leaves drawing I sketched leaves onto my paper (in negative space) then drew and colored my background/positive space.
