Artist Statement:

For this design, I was required to carve a linoleum print that had about a 50/50 ratio of black to white in it. On a more personal level, I wanted my design to be connected to me somehow. I chose the loon because it is both black and white (for the most part) and is connected to my state and my life.

I used various tools for this assignment. All in all, I used black and red ink paint, (various) markers, printmaking paper, and map paper. Of course, I also used linoleum for the carving block as well as carving tools.

I took a block or slab of linoleum, and using carving tools, carved away sections until I created my wanted design. Then, I took an ink roller, and applied ink paint to it using ink paint. Then, I took a piece of paper, and pressed it to the surface of the linoleum block, printing my designs onto it.
