Scratchboard

Artist Statement:

I was inspired by a picture I took on my iPhone earlier in the year. Not only was this photo of a pet, whose fur texture was convenient for the medium, but this image also had lots of light value and contrast. It was also high quality, contributing to my choice of the reference photo.

For this artwork, I used only an 8.5" x 11" piece of scratchboard, and to carve it, scratching tools.

To create this piece, I had to choose a reference photo that was original. After I chose the photo, I gridded both the reference and the scratchboard to make the process easier and more accurate. After that, I proceeded to scratch away the dry black ink to create my image.
