Artist Statement:
For the Shaded Spheres, I had to create four different 3D looking spheres, but I wasn't allowed to use black; the depth was to be shown with color. For the Candy Still-Life, I had to observe and color/paint candy, also not using black. For both projects I chose bright and vivid colors so that my work would pop and be colorful.
For my Shaded Spheres, I used colored pencils, watercolor, and markers all on a piece of watercolor paper. For the Candy Still Life, I used acrylic paint, colored pencils, paint markers, regular markers, and Sharpie markers on a large piece of canvas paper.
Each of the four shaded spheres I drew were a little different. I sketched out the design for each of my spheres before going over them, and I also indicated a light source. One was supposed to be made of colored pencil, the other watercolor, another marker, and finally, the last had to be a mixture of two or more of the previously mentioned materials. I wasn't supposed to use black for this, but instead layer and experiment with different colors. I was also supposed to pay very close attention to different light and dark areas. All of this was also true for my Candy Still-Life, except for this there were no specific materials I was required to use. The still life was also different because it was an observational piece.
