Hope Grows in A Dump

Artist Statement:
For this piece, I had to look at three different things (my hand, my head, and a peer's head) and draw them without looking at my paper. Then I had to connect these drawings and make them all into something. I ended up turning it all into a robot in a dreary landscape that discovers a beautiful flower.
In this drawing, I used a 2B graphite pencil, a 4B graphite pencil, a fine-tipped Sharpie, and various colored pencils.
One of the biggest things I had to adjust was the reflections and the lighting on the robot's body. I wanted to make it look realistic and convincing, but this was a little hard because there are so many different reflections that happen on shiny surfaces like metal or brass. I also played around a bit with the background until the shades of gray were as dark as I wanted them.
