Circle Dot Project

Artist Statement:

Are assignment was to create a piece of art that was primarily composed of circles in some way. When brainstorming, I thought that balloons were pretty circular and that I could use them in my piece. I was then inspired by a book I recently read and which my friend was currently reading, all of which resulted in the drawing. I tried to use selective coloring, but most of the colors took over the grayscale.

This project was created using brush markers, graphite pencils, sharpie pens, and colored pencils. I mostly layered these materials together. All of the final project was done on bristol board paper, but my sketch was done on drawing paper.

I started by doing a simple sketch of my idea. I did another sketch afterward too but then tweaked it a little bit to come up with my final chosen design. Once I had perfected my final sketch, I went over it with a thin sharpie marker. Next, I began with the balloons, layering colored pencils and markers. Finally, I added graphite pencils and more marker to other parts of the design.
