Sustained Investigation #11

Artist Statement:

For my 11th Sustained Investigation project, I wanted to focus on the idea of animal's acting as a spiritual thing for people. I was also inspired by the alebrijes featured in the movie Coco as well as Mexican culture. I really like the vibrancy and design of these, so I wanted to do some myself. 

Completing this project on a wood block, to frame it moreover, I used only acrylic paint. I wanted to use acrylic to be able to have some really vibrant colors that I could layer, if need be, and that would really pop.

Some of my main focuses of this project were color, shape, and pattern. I had to layer colors many times to achieve this, and also developed many sketches for the shapes and patterns. I transferred my designs onto the wood block, then, with many layers, painted the image above.
