Artist Statement:

We were required to create an American Flag inspired project for art, that was either a comment on the USA or a more prideful statement. To play it safe I went for a more prideful statement and chose to honor the military. I tried my best to include all six branches of the military, as well as veterans and medical positions. There are many more roles in the army, but to keep it simple I stuck to these.

When drafting my idea for the design of the soldiers in this piece, I used graphite pencils and a fine-tip sharpie. Otherwise, I used digital materials to create my art project.

I started by creating the background of the image in photoshop, the background being a version of the American flag. After I did this, I drew with graphite pencils on paper, creating the figures or their outlines depicted above. Finally, I uploaded the figures into photoshop, colored them, and then touched-up final details.
