Kam Cheng (Fusion MMA) v Henry McConnell (Rio Grappling Club) @ 62 kg
Round 1 - early takedown from Cheng. Few nice shots from Cheng and they're back standing. Kam with another takedown. Harry works back to his feet but eats a few knees. Cheng looks for a guillotine. Another takedown for Kam but they're up again. Another takedown. Harry gives up his back but winds up in guard top after a scramble. Harry finished on top but a clear, if not busy, round for Kam.
10-9 Kam
Round 2 - Kam straight out with a takedown. Wild scramble but Kam winds up on top. Harry using lockdown to hold him in half guard. Kam passes to mount, works for some subs but winds up throwing heavy ground and pound and the ref stops it.
Winner by TKO at 1.57 of Round 2 is Kam Cheng.
Martin Watkins (Shooters) v Ross Cooper (Team Parente) @ 93kg
Round 1 - Cooper snubbed the pre fight handshake and Watkins walks out to Voodoo Child, reminiscent of NWO Hulk Hogan. Good build! Two nice overhand lefts from Cooper but then things slow down. A lot of circling, then Cooper pins him to the cage for a while. Watkins goads him and gets rocked. Watkins tries a takedown but winds up on bottom where they finish.
10-9 Cooper
Round 2 - Cooper ducks a huge right and pins Watkins to fence. Back and forth wall battle. Nice uppercut from Cooper on the break. They're both tired and swinging. Watkins looks for a takedown but again winds up on bottom. Cooper passes to mount and lands some shots before Watkins gives up his back and after a struggle, Cooper secures the tap due to RNC.
Ross Cooper wins via sub (RNC) at 3.46 of Round 2
Craig Guthrie (Spartans) v Sharaz Hayat (Rick Youngs) @ 73kg
Round 1 - nice right band to open from Hayat which he follows with a takedown. Craig back to his feet and he gets the takedown after a wall battle. Guthrie lands a nice shot which hurts Hayat and passes to side control. Hayat does well to get back up but finishes the round in guillotine danger. Guthrie takes the round on damage.
10-9 Guthrie
Round 2 - Guthrie catches a kick and gets the takedown right away. Hayat wall walks back up and lands his own leg trip takedown. Passes from side to mount. Hayat postures up after a long time in mount just holding but Guthrie rolls to guard top. Hayat with a nice omoplata to triangle transition but Guthrie showing good sub defence to get to the bell. Positional dominance seals the round for Hayat.
10-9 Hayat
Round 3 - all to play for. Two nice leg kicks from Hayat and a nice overhand right from Guthrie. Hayat shoots and Guthrie falls for the guillotine. Hayat gets out but not too active on top. Hayat with a shot but Guthrie smacks him with an upkick. Hayat postures up and passes to side control. Big moment. Mount now. Ref Euan Sloane stands them up from mount in a bizarre move. Hayat, undeterred finishes with one more takedown.
10-9 Hayat
A good back and forth fight which we score 29-28 Hyatt.
The judges score it for Sharaz Hayat.
Sharaz Hayat wins a split decision.
Murray Hughes (TEI MMA) v Khaled Jasser (No Team) @ 93kg
Round 1 - Hughes walks out to Bruno Mars and Jasser danced terribly in the pre fight staredown. Both have sinned before we even start . Jasser channels his inner Tom Hardy and walksout to no music. Jasser shoots for a takedown but ends up in side control bottom. Back to guard. Gets close with an armbar twice and almost a kneebar. Good activity from Jasser and good defence from Murray. Jasser on top briefly but loses it. Murray holding half guard top nicely. Murray finishes on top and despite Jassers active guard, being on top for 95% of the round, and some nice strikes on top, seals an entertaining round for Murray.
10-9 Murray
Round 2 - Jasser with an early takedown. Murray kicks him off and Jasser shoots again winding up on bottom. Jasser locks up a triangle and the tap. Jasser then jumps to the cage to tell the already silent crowd to "sssssh". Strange. No reaction to the silliness.
Jasser wins via sub (Triangle) at 2.47 of Round 2. Jassers guard was fun to watch.
Dawid Kostecki (Gold Team) v Allan Barlow (Underdog Combat Centre) @ 70kg
Round 1 - Barlow looks big for 70! They circle for a while and a lot if strikes are misses. Then Dawid connects, stumbles Barlow and lands a takedown straight to mount. Dawid lands close to 50 strikes from mount but the ref gives Barlow the benefit of the doubt.
10-8 Kostecki
Round 2 - takedown for Dawid straight away. Dawid postures up for some nice strikes and passes to side then mount. Barlow can't get out again and this time the ref stops it
Kostecki wins at 2.08 of Round 2 by TKO
Nice grappling display from Dawid
Interval
In one of the funniest most awkward things I've ever seen, a group of dancers stand in the cage for 5 minutes unable to start their dance as the wrong song keeps playing. Crowd loves it. Few false starts. Once they start, they're pretty good! Too notch entertainment.
Paul McCulloch (Gladiatorial) v Kris Rutherford (Parente) @ 80kg
Round 1 - between McCulloch walking out to O Fortuna and Kris walking out to a song that says Black From The Waist Down, were on for a good one!! Rutherford drops him with aright dives on an arm on guillotine and McCulloch goes out. Brief.
Good guy Darren Clark looks after a concerned supporter who is a bit upset.
Glad to say Paul is fine.
Rutherford wins by sub (guillotine) at 0.34 of Round 1.
Nice from Rutherford - rock, drop, submit.
Mateusz Grabiec (Oban MMA) v Steven Kelly (Team Viper) @ 73kg
Round 1 - Grabiec lunges for a takedown but nice Ogoshi throw from Kelly to side top. They stand but a repeat from Kelly. Kelly gets the back and lands strikes until the ref steps in.
Kelly wins by TKO at 2.04 of Round 1.
Impressive showing against a tough opponent.
Denis Ducky (Shooters) v Thomas Hepburn (Rick Youngs) @ 66kg
Round 1 - jab, right, jab, head kick from Hepburn drops Ducky and it's over. ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING. Not bad for a grappler!! Sure fire KO of the night.
Hepburn wins by TKO at 0.15 of Round 1.
What a blitz.
Andrew Wilkie (TEI MMA) v Valentine Duke (Underdog Combat Centre) @ 66kg
Round 1 - Wilkie is only 59kg! But makes a fan for life by walking out to dance classic Set You Free. A group of Middle Aged Women chant "Wilkie"! Duke walks out to the same!!?? Sound guy playing tricks again. Big size difference. Duke muscles him to the ground mounts him and strikes to the finish. Man v Boy. Too big a size difference.
Duke wins by TKO at 2.27 of Round 1.
Patrick McKinnon (Shooters) v Dawid Lo (Oban) @ 77kg
Round 1 - early takedown from Lo. Pat right back up and gets his own. Pat gets a few more before settling on top landing some ok shots from guard top.
10-9 Patrick
Round 2 - Patrick goes for a takedown, Lo reverses to mount, gets the back and sinks in the RNC. Awesome comeback.
Lo by Sub (RNC) at 0.45 of Round 2
Euan Macleod (Jiu Jitsu misfits) v Dean Elliot (Viper) @ 62kg
Round 1 - I like Ginge so I won't mention the dodgy walk out dance. The staredown for this one was great. This is the big one for me! Ginge throwing heavy landing a few shots. Dean catches a kick for a takedown but Ginge right back up. HEAD KICK from Dean. Big left from Ginge. Dean stuffs a shot lands a takedown of his own. Ginge back up. Dean slips on a kick. Outstanding round. Glad I'm not a judge. 10-10. Razor thin. Easily round of the night.
Round 2 - two big strikes from Ginge but Dean gets the takedown. Ginge up, takes a few shots. Ginge with a takedown of his own. Dean up!! Nice knee to the head for Ginge. Leg kick, left hook right hook flurry for Dean. Big. Second takedown for Ginge. Nice ground and pound. Dean up. Takedown for Dean. Dean stays on top for good while to end. Another fascinating round. Still glad I'm not a judge. 10-9 Dean. Razor razor thin.
Round 3 - if you missed this one shame on you. Ginge sprawls on a shot. Big. Nice jab from Dean. Huge takedown from Ginge to side control. Ginge on top for a good while. Back to guard. Nice shots from Ginge. Dean has an armbar!! GINGE IS OUT. They're up. Ginge picking a tired Dean apart now. Another takedown for Ginge. Nice ground and pound. Massive round for Ginge. 10-9 Ginge.
Best C Class fight I've ever seen.
I have it a draw because I'm way too impressed to call someone a loser.
I have it 28-28
Judges have it for Ginge 2 rounds to 1.
Brilliant.
Helen Copus (GCG) v Tracy McFarlane (Team EBS) @ 63kg
Round 1 - no secret where my loyalties lie here! Helen's a friend but her spats are awful . Tracy gets the reaction of the night. No doubt who is the big draw here!! Takedown. Mount. Strikes. Stoppage. Total Domination for Helen. Because GCG FUCKING RULE!!!!!
Copus by TKO at 1.12 of Round 1
Aidan Stephen (Misfits) v Simon Kelly (Team Parente) @ 70kg
Round 1 - well looks like Kelly gets walkout of the night for a remix of Rattle. Early takedown for Aidan. Straight to mount. Back. RNC. Total squash match.
Aidan by sub (RNC) at 0.28 of Round 1.
Jasim Beg (Gladiatorial) v Dean Begg (Higher Level) @ 62kg
Round 1 - Dean is doing a Bill Goldberg impression with his walk out, flanked by unnecessary security Dean drops Jasim with a right instantly. Ground and pound and it's done. Not competitive. We told you!
Dean by TKO at 0.22 of Round 1.
Dean v Ginge sounds superb to me.
Final thoughts.
FOTN - Ginge v Dean Elliot
KOTN - Thomas Hepburn
SOTN - Dawid Lo
Excellent night. 14 fights is a lot but the show was brilliantly paced lasting only 3 hours.
We saw one classic, a few great back and forth wars and some wonderful finishes. What's not to like!
Worth double the ticket money. Art Of Combat do it again!
