Well Sport fight 12 was in Lannark last night (13/11/2010) .This is one of the longest running shows in Scotland .A showcase for the Dinky Ninja Fight Team(DNFT). And Promoters Gaz Christy, James Doolan, John Nicolson putting together a 13 fight card of Semi Pro MMA, Pro MMA and a couple of K1 rules fights .
As seems to be the way of things these days, there was a 4 man tournament on the card, this time it was the turn of the Bantam weights to provide the action.
1st was the 1st semi-final of the of Bantams Brian Hyslop ( DNFT ) Vs. Marc Cosgrove
Hyslop who has a background in Amateur boxing over powered Cosgrove , sending him crashing to the cage floor 5 times in the 1st round . To his credit Cosgrove managed to survive the onslaught of the 1st round, taking the fight to the last bell and to the judges cards . Hyslop takes the fight on all 3 cards
2nd semi-final in the Bantams Tournament was Darren Gilchrist Vs. James McAlister
In the opening exchange both fighters threw multiple flurries of punches, but most of the 1st round was spent on the ground . Gilchrist spent most of the round on top in McAlisters guard. 2nd round was short with McAlister securing victory with a Guillotine.
McAlister continues on to the final to meet Hyslop.
Next up was Andrew Dobbie (DNFT) Vs Craig Devine
1st round Dobbie secures the takedown very quickly , passing Devine’s guard with ease. It’s not long before Dobbie mounts and completes his debut win in MMA with a slick mounted triangle, he locked it in and secured the finish by rolling to his back .
Next up Steven McCreadie (DNFT) Vs Darren Till
Most of this fight is a stand up battle , Till who has Thai boxing background landed a few low kicks and works his stand up well. McCreadie opens up a cut on Till face late in the 1st round . McCreadie take till down and spends most of the 2nd round on top in the mounted position but never really has a chance for the sub . 3rd round is a stand up battle both fighters put on a great show for the fans . Till takes the fight on the cards of all 3 judges .
Continuing with the semi pro fights Alex Davidson put on a very dominant performance in all 3 rounds against Ahsan Gillani to take the fight on all 3 judges’ cards
Alan Johnston showed great composure when dominating the fight against William Laver to his victory on points .
Next up on a great card were to K1 rules fight Stuart Johnston Vs TJ Little, this was a great stand up battle which had the whole venue on their feet by the end .Johnston secured the victory .
Ryan Gavin wins by TKO over Kieran Laidlaw in the 2nd round of the 2nd of the K1 rules fights.
Now we move on to the Pro debut of Martin Delany , Delany who won the Strike & Submit Semi Pro title with his last fighting appearance. His opponent was Mark Young , who fought on the last SFC, WW 4 MAN tournament losing in the final to Stevie Ray .
Delany the local man had sold plenty of tickets and had huge local support . In the opening exchange Delaney gets tagged by Young . Delaney immediately grabs a single leg & finishes the take down . A slick transition to Young’s back and the RNC finishes the fight very quickly . Delaney has his debut Pro MMA win keeping his unblemished record .
Next up making his Pro debut was Darren Grey , his opponent for this fight was Neil Mcguigan . McGuigian whos last fight was a good win against Robert Whitford at the last Oran Moor show . Grey who has a perfect semi pro record looked very sharp in the opening exchanges . The fight is over before it gets started as Grey secures a vicious guillotine choke 1.15 sec into the 1st round . Grey looks to have a bright future in Pro MMA and here is hoping he will be a very busy fighter in 2011.
The final of the Bantam tournament was up next , this looked like the classic striker vs the grappler fight .Hyslop had the best of the 1st round , with McAlister taking the 2nd . This set the 3 rd as the decider, McAlister secured a take down and in the scramble secures a front head lock position, McAlister then gator rolls to secure the win by Anaconda choke .Both fighters certainly put on a show and the current crop of Bantam weights are looking good for moving up to the Pro ranks .
Finally the fight of the night was Rich McLearty Vs Graham Armstrong .
Armstrong gets the best of the of the fight which is mostly fought on the ground . It’s a back and forth affair with a couple of reversals from top to bottom . Into the 3rd round the fight goes to the ground once more with Armstrong securing the victory with a RNC .
So Sportfight 12 comes and goes , the 1st one of the shows to be in a cage .Over 400 spectators seen some great action, the DNFT had a good night with a few wins for the home team . No doubt we will be back for the 13th instalment of this fight show in the spring 2011.
