Grapplers from all over the west of Scotland descended on Lycan’s fight Academy in Kilmarnock, the BJJ Scotland HQ, on Sunday 11th December for a gathering of BJJ Scotland affiliated clubs. Black belt instructor Marcos Nardini had extended the invitation to members of the team who train at various venues in Kilmarnock, Ayr, Coatbridge Glasgow, Johnston and Dumbarton. The format of the day was an open mat with much rolling (sparring) and exchange of techniques. However, this was preceded by a belt ceremony with numerous students being awarded their blue belt, purples going to Shaun Taylor and Dan Soule and a brown belt being awarded to Andy Callaghan. Stripes on belts were also awarded to many and the coloured belts welcomed the newly promoted to their new rank with the painful Brazilian belt whipping tradition. BJJ continuous to grow in Scotland and with so many clubs now affiliated to BJJ Scotland and Marcos Nardini there is no excuse not to check it out and learn from the best.
