Hi Joanne Thanks for speaking with us Your just back from Kansas City fighting for Invicta Fighting Championships. How was the experience?
The experience was awesome as expected being back at Invicta. This was my fourth time out to the city and working with Invicta, I'm so honoured to be part of it and excited to get back already.
Your opponent Katja Kaannapka was undefeated at 8-0-1, ranked number 5 in the world, and a ADCC European champion would you say that was your toughest opponent to date ?
Yea she was relentless, and I knew I was going to have to stick to a game plan and avoid her getting on top or getting me against the cage and stalling, she had not only beat but dominated some good fighters before.
Katja had said in an interview the fight would decide who was the best female fighter in Europe do you think you've proved that?
Year heard that, that never really crossed my mind, I'm more ambitious I want to be the best fighter in them world at 115 pounds why restrict yourself to Europe. I've beat girls in Muay Thai and now MMA of around 14 or 15 different nationalities to date.
You left Scotland ranked number 7 in the world and after the win you've jumped up to number 3 you must be happy with that?
Yea I'm just happy I performed well and showed that I'm a well disciplined fighter and dealt with another different styled fighter. I'm not really into the rankings that much although I know the UFC use the fight matrix ones and they seem about right.
2013 has been a big year for your team the Dinky Ninjas what's the secret to the teams success?
No secret I think it's the hard work we put in. We have some great coaching and a strong team spirit. We feed of of each other's success, ninjas sharpen ninjas.
Your pretty well known for your Technical ability in fights but this last fight the commentary team (Mo Lawal and Miesha Tate) kept referring to how calm and controlled you are in them cage what's going through your mind in there?
Not a lot to be fair haha just concentrating and in work mode. I'm in autopilot when I fight, there's not time in there to think.
You'r 8-0 as a pro now, world ranked, your still a Muay Thai world champion, what's next for you ?
Just to keep getting better and fight the next person that gets put in front of me. I believe everything happens for a reason, I am enjoying every minute (well apart from the weight cutting bit) of my journey, my aim is to be the best fighter I can be and I'm really fortunate to have the support around me that I have from my family and team, it's this support that allows me to do this.
Thanks again for your time Joanne, any shout outs to wrap up ?
Thanks for the interview. Thanks to Invicta for giving me the opportunity to fight across the pond again. Thanks and shout out to my awesome sponsors Sandee, MAL, funkygums, physio effect and sas nutrition. Thanks to All my team mates that have my back!
