STRIKE & SUBMIT 16
Well the North East of England's premier MMA event made its 16th appearance, with an impressive 14 bouts, 10 pro and 4 semi-pro. MC for the night was the Legendary and ex UFC heavy weight contender Ian “the machine” Freeman .
Straight off the bat the the pick of the semi pro fights was Martin Delaney of the DNFT, who put in a very dominant performance, taking the win on all 3 of the judges score cards to take the welterweight title. Delaney now will return to Scotland a champ ready for his Pro début at this coming Novembers, Sport fight Scotland event .
Making his pro début was Sean Wright of Contender Asia fame. His opponent was Dave Straighten also on on his Pro Début. This fight was a one sided affair with Wright taking down Straighten passing his guard and mounting. In the dominant mount he rained down some horrendous GNP , the ref had no option but to stop the fight, Stoppage in the first round due to GNP.
Local fighter Davey Parker brought a huge local following, faced off with Leroy Barnes . The 1st round seen Parker control well on top until 45 second from the end of the round , when he was reversed from the top to the bottom by Barnes. As the 2nd round started Parker shot immediately and Barnes took his opportunity to sink in the Guillotine, securing the neck he jumped guard leaving Parker tapping for breath 13 sec into the 2nd round.
The main event was a middle weight bout between Scott “the body” Ward and Local fighter Mickey Burns . Burns had sold more than his fair share of tickets and was well backed by the crowd. From the 1st bell Ward with the full weight of the local crowd against him was composed and ready for battle, Ward shot a single leg , pushing through and finishing the take down, Ward controlled and then finished the fight with a RNC 2:45 into the first round.
So another Strike and Submit had come and gone leaving the large crowd happy with what the had paid for. This was my first trip to the show and it was well run and certainly worth the 400 mile round trip and £30 ticket .
