First off you’ve had a fantastic 2011, firmly putting yourself on the map, for those not to familiar with your magnificent entry into Pro, can you give us a brief summary?
Last year I went 4-0 as a pro and went through some good opponents and I'm now 3rd in the UK at Flyweight.
You’re next fight is at ON TOP 4, can you talk a little about your opponent and your prep?
My next opponent is Mark Platts who has fought most his fights at Bantamweight. To date this is my most experienced opponent but I'm actually training twice as hard as I usually do so he is fighting a new improved me.
2012 is already looking busy, do you like to have a full calender and if so why ?
I have one more fight after Platts in April but I think ill be busy this year as well as I'm enjoying learning and improving with each fight and also enjoying the constant high level of training with each fight camp.
A busy man, what do you do to relax?
Relax?! What does that mean? Lol If I'm not training, I'm usually always busy up to something. Come to think about it the only time I get to relax is when I'm sleeping haha
As well as fighting, you have been seen ring announcing , judging, commentating and even a short stint at SFC 5 as the Vaseline man, you are a very active member of Scotland’s MMA community , what do you think we can do to gather more interest ( in general) ?
I know I have been everything bar a ring card girl! And the only reason I done the fighters Vaseline is because my eyesight is terrible and didn't want to miss the main events haha. The Scottish MMA community is doing well in my opinion. I think some people have to remember its just a sport and no matter how dedicated you are to a sport, opponents and rival teams are not hated enemies. A little bit more respect and a lot less ego in Scotland wouldn't be a bad thing but apart from that its going well.
On FB you come across as a very positive and well driven man, do you have any advice for some one getting into MMA or just looking to make some positive changes towards a healthier lifestyle?
For people hoping to get into MMA, just get off your ass and head to a good gym in your area. Its that simple, a lot of people tell me they will train with me once they are a bit fitter?! That makes no sense at all because the only way you get specifically fit for MMA is to learn from good coaches and be amongst professional fighters. And if your just looking to make positive changes to your life just remember life is short and for the time being we only know of getting one shot at it so may as well do what you love doing whatever it is.
Any thanks? Sponsors?
Thanks to the Dinky Ninjas for beating me up and taking liberties with me cos I'm the lightest guy in the team! And thanks to On Top and SFC for putting me on their show.
How can folk get in touch , follow you etc. and Gym info ?
Anybody interested in training and close enough to Glasgow, come up to the Griphouse (thegriphouse.co.uk) and give it a shot I promise that the training, atmosphere and banter is second to none :)
