This Sunday sees the next instalment of the newly re-established SFC brand here in Scotland, ahead of an excellent day of fights .This is a brief look at and interview with main event fighter Shaun “The Disgrace” Taylor.
Hello Shaun I have known you for many years now and followed you rise with keen interest , your Fighting on SFCs next card (01/09/2013) up in Stirling , can you give us a short Bio?
I'm Shaun “the disgrace” Taylor, I am a professional MMA fighter with a record of five wins and no losses. I fight out of the Lycans Fight Team / Gracie Barra Ayrshire based in Kilmarnock. My style? I'm a bit of a scruff? My next opponent is Graham Armstrong of Mataleon in Wishaw. I'm vigorously thrusting my violent tendencies upon him on the 1st of September on SFC in Stirling.
You have been stepping up the ladder, facing stiffer and stiffer competition , what’s your thoughts on fellow Scots man Graham Armstrong?
I deal with better fighters on a daily basis in the gym.
Know as “The Disgrace” to the multitude of Scottish MMA fans, online you could definitely be seen as the Heel of Scottish MMA, is this something you work on ? And do you think good media awareness is the key to cracking the big time ? (as well as having stellar MMA skills) ?
Nah skills will always / should always take precedence over media knowledge, just because someone knows how to say big impressive words doesn't mean they'll crack it as a fighter. I think you should always just be yourself, unless your a certain Glasgow based gladiator, never be that guy. He's a cunt. I don't work on my "persona", I just do what I feel like doing at the time, much to the annoyance of my coaches.
A good strong team with great inter team links allowing you lots of variety in your training , sparring etc , do you think this will be an advantage ?
Definitely, I surround myself with the best in the country, from my own club where I learn and grow under my main coaches to sparring with top guys elsewhere. I know my opponent doesn't have anything near as good as that.
What’s your thoughts on the pros and cons of Scottish MMA community as it stands?
I'd like to see more guys turning pro, as it stands you've got guys who have had about 10+ fights staying at C class. I think many need to have a look at themselves and grow some balls.
Finally how is training going ?
Awesome, weights on check, no injuries for a change, couldn't really ask for more. Big thanks you to Casual Boxing, they've given me some cool and durable gear, everyone knows I can be a bit grotty and I've NEVER had kit that can stand up to the toxic environment that is me / my training bag for this long.
Final words for your opponent?
welcome to the welterweight division. you're not going to have a good time.
