Hostile Territory Fight Night 5th August 2011,
Sponsored by Stirling Shields Security
Hostile Territory hosted yet another successful and exciting night of MMA action at the Alloa Town Hall, with Alloa showing off its great talent... and im not just talking about the fighters. Bouts included Amateur, Semi Pro and Pro MMA. Once again the Town provided an immense and loud atmosphere with great support for the home fighters. A very small venue but the tiered balcony seating and great bar service made for a winning atmosphere, definitely one of the best shows in Scotland.
AMATEUR
Greg Muir (Hostile Territory) vs Jack Williamson (Ghost Town MMA) 80kg: Winner Muir via armbar rnd 1.
The only amateur bout of the evening found Greg Muir quickly finishing Williamson with a slick arm bar in the first round.
SEMI-PRO
Peter Scobie () vs Adam Sinclair (Jigoku) 80kg : Winner Scobie via Unanamous Decision
The first semi pro bout of the evening proved to be a one sided grappling match, where Peter Scobie was relentless with his take downs and dominated from top position for the majority of the fight. From the outset Scobie proved to be the superior grappler, constantly looking to advance position and punish his opponent with ground and pound and some great elbows to the body. Sinclair managed to escape a number of submission attempts, including a tight guillotine in the 3rd round. A very decisive win for Scobie.
Sean Bryce (Lanark MMA) vs David Fyall (Hostile Territory) 75kg: Winner Bryce via arm bar rnd 1.
After a delayed start due to Fyall leaving his gum shield in the dressing room, the bout started with Fyall coming out swinging trying to dominate the standup. After a barrage of punches Fyall was very upright and left his takedown defense open, which Bryce immediately took advantage of by double legging Fyall and securing a tight side control position. Bryce continued to full mount and locked in a tight arm bar causing Fyall to tapout early in the first round. A great debut performance by the Lanark Fighter.
Barry McHugh (Griphouse) vs David Mackie (Head Hunters) 73kg: Winner McHugh via unanimous decision.
The first round consisted of quick exchanges of strikes followed by McHugh securing a number of takedowns. Mackie pulls guard in the Seond round and tried to lock in a triangle choke, which McHugh escapes by slamming Mackie back down and passing the leg over. The fight is stood up after a lack of action on the ground. Mackie goes for the take down a number of times before the end of the fight which are all stopped by Mchugh who sprawls and passes guard before getting stood up. By the 3rd round Mackie looked very tired and McHugh dominated on the deck for the remainder.
Ian Posstlewaithe (Lycans) vs Gary Priestly (Hostile Territory) 57kg: Winner Posstlewaithe via tapout triangle-arm bar rnd 1.
“The Battle of the Cool Haircuts” Both fighters entered the ring with elaborate Mohawk style haircuts… just to let everyone know that this one was going to be a belter!
This fight had the potential to be a barn-burner between to of Scotland’s top 57kg fighters. Both fighters came out looking very confident on their feet, after a quick exchange Posstlewaithe went for the takedown where the submission chaining onslaught begun. Posstlewaith went from armbar attempt, to an arm triangle attempt which looked very tight, however Priestly managed to hold on. Posstlewaithe then took full mount and Preistly got the sweep. Posstlewaithe immediately went for the triangle which Preistly tried to posture up from, which allowed postlewaith to grab the arm and secure a tight arm bar causing Preistly to tap after 3mins 49 seconds of the first round. Yet another strong grappling performance by the Lycans fighter, extending his semipro record to 3-0 all via submissions. Definitely a Scottish fighter to keep your eye on.
Lee McPhee (Vipers) vs Grant “Yeti” Smith HW: Winner McPhee via Decision
This was a great Heavy weight battle between two great fighters with a lot of heart. Smith started strong with good hands connecting on McPhee’s chin. McPhee then got an arm drag takedown and ended up on top in side control putting his weight advantage to full use as he smothered Smith and attempted a kimora before the rounds end. The second round started with an exciting exchange between the fighters, McPhee connecting with a nice jab cross combo before the they clinched up, smith looked much stronger in the clinch and worked the collar tie while unleashing a barrage of right uppercuts to McPhee. Before taking too much damage McPhee once again secured a nice arm drag take down into half guard. McPhee then attacked Smith with so strikes to the body and chest but then landed an illegal strike to the head on the ground. the fight was then stood up and restarted. Mcphee then dropped Smith with a big right hand and finished the round on top in side control. The final round mainly consisted of McPhee on top apart from a 20 second slug fest on their feet, which sent Alloa town hall crazy! A good performance by McPhee, very Roy Nelson vs kimbo inspired from the side control position.
Michael Brooks (Edge MMA) vs Steve Harrison (Fusion MMA) 75kg: Winner Brooks via Unanimous Decision.
Brooks secures the takedown in the first round and maintains top position for much of it. Harrison then sweeps and finished the round on top. Brooks started the second round the stronger fighter landing some good knees before dropping with a guillotene attempt whick Harrison popped the arm and escaped from. After sitting in Brooks guard they were stood up. Harrison then attempted a few head kicks which Brooks shook off and got a nice hip throw into side control. Brooks then attempted an unsuccessful arm triangle and then went to full mount before the round was out. Brooks comes out strong in the 3rd with some nice combos finishing up with some stinging low kicks. After clinching up Harrison attempted a take down which Brooks reversed and finished the fight on top. Brooks looked strong, a good future prospect from Edge MMA.
Cammy Scott (Lanark MMA) vs Rafal Zelazny (Highland) 63kg: Winner Scott Via arm bar rnd 2
After a quick exchange Scott secures a take down and quickly takes Zelanzy’s back and secures a body triangle while working for the rear naked choke. After not being able to secure the choke Zelanzy manages to sweep Scott and finished the round on top but walks away bleeding. The second round starts with Scott attempting a takedown and sending Zelanzy through the ropes and landing on the judge table. The fights restarted and Scott gets a nice takedown whick Zelanzy then sweeps but leaves an arm out which Scott is quick to capitalize on and forces a tapout by arm bar.
Sean Taylor(Lycans) vs Roddy Campbell (Head Hunters) 80kg: Winner Taylor via rear naked choke rnd 3
Both fighters come out throwing a few jabs to gauge each others reactions, after a quick exchange they clinch up and Cambell gets the underhooks and secures a big takedown. The rest of the round was Cambell on top throwing in body shots and defending sweep attampts from Taylor. Taylor gets the sweep right on the buzzer before the end of the round. The second round was a mainly on the ground where the fighters both seeped each other a number of times before the fight was stood back up after Taylor connecting with an up-kick, a mix up in the rules later proved this to actually be allowed. Taylor connects nicely as the two slug it out before securing a clean takedown and passing guard to north south position. Taylor finishes the round strong after throwing in some strong shots to the body and a can opener attempt from the top, which was also stopped and later found to be legal. The third round was dominated from top position by Taylor who then started to show-boat (like a tit). Looking quite tired Cambell tries to stand back up, and seeing his back and neck exposed Taylor quickly finishes the fight late in the 3rd with his strong rear naked choke, amost putting cambell to sleep before tapping out. A great war by two very strong fighters.
Eamon Cramb (Hostile Territory) vs Jamie Robertson (Jigoku) 83kg: Winner Cramb via decision.
From the outset Cramb shows off his superiour striking with crisp combos and very effective head and spinning back kicks. Robertson clearly not wanting to stand up with Cramb secures a takedown before the fight is stood back up. Cramb once again throws a barrage of combos at Robertson, connecting with some nice head kicks. Robertson gets another takedown but has to finish the round defending a triangle attampt from Cramb. The second round is paused for a minute while Robertson recovers from an accidental groin strike from Cramb. The rest of the fight was a one sided show of great striking technique from Cramb. Add a bit more takedown defence and ground game and Cramb is a very strong hopefull at pro level in the Scottish welter/middle weight division.
PRO
Rab “Baloo” Truesdale (hostile Territory) vs Joe Nugent (Vipers) HW: Winner Truesdale Via TKO (ground and pound) rnd 1.
In the cull main event of the evening Hostile Terrotorys own Rab “Baloo” Truesdale faces off against Vipers Joe Nugent, who bravely took the step up from welterweight to heavyweight on short notice to fight an experienced strong opponent.
From the outset Truesdale showed his superior strength by charging Nugent’s attempted low kick and sending him crashing through the ropes onto the judges table making the crowd wild! Baloo then secured a big takedown dominating Nugent on the ground, Nugent makes it back to his feet but Truesdale immediately picks Nugent up and slams him back to the ground where he lands some solid strikes from half guard. The two stand back up and Truesdale shows off some impressive strikes, connecting with some powerfull uppercuts and looping hooks. Truesdale then takes Nugent down and secures a tight half guard position before unleashing a brutal barrage of right hands causing the referee to step in and call an end to the fight and Alloa town hall to errupt. A very dominant performance by Rab, but a lot of respect to Joe for stepping up to a huge challenge that many wouldn’t have.
Kieran “The Hater” Malone (DNFT) vs Adam Stevenson Hostile Territory 70kg: Winner Malone via Unanimous Decision.
The main event of the evening, sponsored by Stirling Shields Security was between Keiran Malone, a very strong British Wrestler from DNFT and Adam Stevenson of Holstile territory.
It didn’t take long for malone to execute the first takedown. After waiting for Stevenson to throw a kick malone took the double leg and dragged Stevenson to the ground. From here on it was a one sided ground and pound lesson from “The Hater”. Stevenson attempted a few arm bars from guard but wasn’t able to secure an arm, and malone continued to punish Stevenson for the rest of the round opening up a cut on his head with a sharp elbow. The second round was much the same with Malone pounding away from top position showing off his great wrestling skills. The two stood back up for a couple of seconds before Malone got another double leg and carried on brutalizing Stevenson from his guard. Stevenson started out the Third round my tryig to land a flying knee to Malone, who stuffed it and secured another takedown and for the next 5 minuted continued to punch Stevenson through the canvas. A great one sided domination by Malone. Stevenson showed lot of heart and managed to pull through still smiling after the final buzzer.
All in all another great show in Alloa. Big thanks to Josh Gavin and the Hostile Territory team for hosting the show and a big thanks to Wull McCrackin for doing a great job refereeing. Cant wait for the Christmas show on December 18th, getting better every time!
