Doernbecher Subspecialty Careers Pathway

PURPOSE

Residents considering careers in a pediatric subspecialty may opt into the subspecialty careers pathway. The pathway’s goal is to present residents with options for rotations, mentorship, and other experiences to guide their individualized career development. This pathway is appropriate for residents considering a variety of differing fellowships and the curriculum will focus on preparing the resident to successfully secure a desired fellowship training position and to prepare the resident to thrive in the selected pediatric subspecialty.

WHEN & HOW

Residents considering careers in a pediatric subspecialty may incorporate desired components of the subspecialty career curriculum into their individualized learning plan throughout their 3 years of residency. During biannual meetings with their portfolio advisors (both mentors and program directors), residents will reflect on their experiences and determine educational goals for the upcoming six months. This document’s elective menu and timeline provide a starting point for learning plan development.

This is not an exhaustive list of opportunities (or even available pediatric subspecialties).

Please note that Pediatric Hospital Medicine, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Pediatric Critical Care and Neonatology are part of the Doernbecher Inpatient Careers pathway
