Overview:

This is an outpatient rotation fulfilling the ACGME requirement of training in pediatric development.

Rotation goals and objectives:

1. Develop a working knowledge of typical development and behavior for children and families and apply this knowledge in the clinical setting to differentiate normal from abnormal states.

2. Understand the pediatrician's role in screening, diagnosing, managing and/or referring children with autism spectrum disorders.

3. Understand the pediatrician's role in diagnosing and managing uncomplicated cases of ADHD and referral of refractory cases.

4. Understand the psychosocial impacts of chronic illness and disability on the child and family

Prior to the start of the rotation:

You should receive an email from Dr. Panoscha describing where and when to meet her on your first day of the rotation

First day of the rotation:

Will meet with the program director for an orientation and to get the rotation clinic schedule. Please contact Dr. Panoscha if you have not received a meeting time and location via email a few days before the rotation starts.

Resident Expectations:

Duties and expectations will vary from clinic to clinic. Some clinics will have you do the traditional seeing the patient, reporting to the attending and doing the charting. Other clinics will have you do some developmental testing or specific developmental observation. Feel free to bring your questions. All of our faculty love to teach. The residents who actively ask questions and participate tend to get the most out of this rotation.

In addition, all residents will spend 2 weekdays in Eugene at the CDRC clinic there. The dates will be determined in advance with you by Jodi Leonard.

General Schedule:

Varies by rotation. This will be discussed with your in-person meeting with Dr. Panoscha.

Schedule

Conferences:

Friday at 7:30 am in CDRC room 3135 for Resident Case Conference with Dr. Panoscha

Tuesday at 4:00 pm in CDRC room 3220 (but location may vary) for Neuroscience Conference

Thursday at 3:00 pm in CDRC room 3200 for LEND Conference

If you are going to be absent for all or part of a day:

1. Contact Rita Panoscha

2. Contact the chief residents and Mike Grubbs
