Advocacy & Public Health

Required activities:

1) Please view the following video from AAP & Mona Hanna-Attisha (Residency Director, Michigan State) on the Flint Water crisis

2) Child Advocacy Worksheet --Visit 2 community sites on your own (Parks & Rec and Library)

3) Visit Parks and Recreation and pick up a catalog of classes for youth. More information here

4) Legislative advocacy:

a) Attend OPS Advocacy Committee Meeting, 3rd Thursday of the month. Discuss with Dr Alanna Braun how to get involved!

b) Attend legislative advocacy noon conference series

c) Discuss visit to capitol in Salem (depends on timing of rotation and session)

d) Find your legislator and look at their websites and review priority issues: More information here

4) Residents should review the AAP Federal Advocacy Action Center. Residents can review current activities, as well as up to date information on health care reform and children. As an activity, residents can choose between writing a letter to a public official or writing a letter to the editor during their rotation.
