Community Health Activity

The Community Health Activity gives you an opportunity to take what you’ve learned on the rotation and develop a tangible resource for your patients and families, share information with other residents and faculty about community resources, or more broadly advocate for children and their families.

Your activity can be brief and completed during the rotation or be the start of something that you can continue during an IC block or CACH 2

Some examples of activity:

1. Develop a Smart Set or Dot Phrase in EPIC to share a community resource that you’ve identified.

Past examples include: .wic and .earlyintervention

2. Create a community resource handout to be used at clinic visits.

Past examples include: car seat handout, food resources handout

3. Offer to make an educational poster or do a parent educational session for one of the community organizations that you visit during your rotation

4. Write a letter to the editor or OpED (see advocacy writing exercise references)

5. Meet with one of your legislators to discuss a topic of interest or attend a local legislative session
