Doing the Wright Thing

By K Daniel

“I was walking home from school going down 1st Street in Estate Thomas, holding my nana because I wanted to pee badly. So at the bottom of the street, I stood up and danced up and down for it to ride back up. Since I couldn't hold it any more, I walked and let it flow.”

At that moment, Ms. Wright and I both burst out laughing. I told her to continue because the story was so shocking. “My cousin saw me walking while he was in a car going home. He saw my clothes wet and screamed out from the car saying ‘UHUH, she pee herself!’ while pointing. I was so mad that I blasted his behind when I passed by his house." This is the most embarrassing moment from Ms. Natasha Wright's childhood that she did not mind sharing.

Ms. Natasha Wright was born on December 4, 1972 on the island of St.Croix. She was raised by her mother, Joan Benjamin, and family members. She has two brothers and one sister from her father’s side.

Ms. Wright attended the Ivanna Eudora Kean High School, and then went on to Norfolk State University, where she obtained a B.S. degree in Chemistry. She later attended the University of the Virgin Islands and got an M.A. in Educational Technology.

Ms. Wright is one of the best chemistry teachers at Kean High. She knows how to talk to the students when they become frustrated. I asked her why she picked chemistry to teach, and she said, “Chemistry is a hard subject that makes you think analytically and prepares you for problem solving skills, and I like to help kids learn that you have to work hard for what you want in life.”

Her hobbies and interests are baking, going on adventures, listening to music, and hanging out with her family and friends. The love of her life is her only son, Icijah Nurse, who is 13 years old.

When Ms.Wright retires from teaching, she would like to travel around the world and see new people and things with her son. She is a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and when I asked her if she likes it, she said, “Yes, I love it because we do lots of things for the people on St.Thomas."

Ms. Wright is a small, dark-skinned woman with lovely hair who always keeps herself looking good. One thing I like about Ms. Wright is how she dresses. She looks appealing in the colors pink and green, which are her sorority colors, and she also loves to wear the color black. She is like a mother to me when I need to talk to some one about anything dealing with school, boys, family problems, or just life.
