-Football Team Stands United

In spite of not having won a lot of football games, the Ivanna Eudora Kean Football Team still manages to keep their heads up high, ending the season with three wins and four losses.

The 2011 football team for Kean included up to 37 players and six captains: Everton Fevrier, Ernest Williams, Adream Phillips, Shawn Smith, Peron Trotman, and Malik Leonard.

Important players on this team include Shunnel Greenaway, freshmen quarterback, who made many great throws this season to Simone Lawrence Jr. Lawrence made six touchdowns for the season.

According to Mr. Peter Seipel, the athletic director at Kean High, “This tackle football team this year is on a high because of the facility available to them.” Mr. Seipel is referring to the newly refurbished gym and the new weight lifting room, which has made the team stronger.

“The football season didn’t start on time due to the fact that the field didn’t have enough grass for the players to play on,” said Mr. Seipel, but that didn’t stop them from coming hard in their first game against the Charlotte Amalie Chicken Hawks.

“They [Devil Rays] were good this year; they had a lot of faith,” said “Fat-Fat” Shenquia Kean, a senior at Kean High.

Even though they didn’t come home with a win, they still did their best.

The turn out for the games show that the Rays have been appreciated, and the football team loves the support from their fans. “There are a lot more people at the Charlotte and Kean games,” said former football player Franklin Colas, a junior at Kean High.

“Zozo,” also a junior at Kean High, said, “Charlotte and Kean have always been going at it.”

Principal Sharon Ann McCollum of Kean High said that her hopes for next year are “ That they are district champions.”

She also said, “I'm very pleased with them; I can appreciate that they worked together to show that Smith Bay and St John can get along.”

In the past, students from Smith Bay and St John have had numerous fights. The fact that they are supposed to be one family, and family supports each other no matter what, was displayed by the football team this season.
