Painter in Action

One dedicated person, a few swishes of a brush, time and effort created a remarkable painting called “Midnight Bubble.” Jarvon Stout, a 17-year-old senior at Ivanna Eudora Kean High School, was overtaken with joy on March 20, 2011 when he found out that his painting “Midnight Bubble” was sold at an art show held at St. Thomas Dairies.

“I was shocked because seeing my competition, which was really good by the way, destroyed my enthusiasm. I left early from St. Thomas Dairies to go back home, thinking that staying there would be pretty pointless. Little did I know that I did sell the painting for $150.00,” Stout said.

It took Stout approximately seven hours to complete his 8.5 x 11 inch acrylic painting for his Drawing and Painting class with Ms. Fran Rutnik. Many tools and resources were needed to complete this work of art-- resources such as acrylic paint, two brushes, a cup of water, a napkin and a clear mind.

Stout has been perfecting this talent for as long as he can remember. “It just came naturally to me from an early age,” Stout says. This has not been his only sale. In fact, through his art career he has sold around 10 pieces of art: one acrylic painting, one oil painting, three logo designs, three animal sketches and two tattoo designs.

When asked what inspired him to paint “Midnight Bubble,” Stout answered with a chuckle, “It simply was for a grade. Everyone else was focusing on triangles and squares and simple straight lines, and I wanted to stray from the crowd. I knew that if I did what everyone else was doing, I wouldn’t be satisfied with myself in the end.”
