-Kean High Crown Its Stars

It's that time again! The stars of Kean High competed on March 17,2012 as it hosted its 3rd annual Ameri-Kean Idol. Day One, a month earlier, started out with auditions held in Ms. Jeannette Rhymer’s class to see who had what it takes to become the next Ameri-Kean Idol winner. From there the final contestants were picked by Ms Rhymer and the previous winners from the last show, then rehearsals began.

On the day of the show, models, dancers, soloist, group singers, and group dancers were backstage practicing their acts. Some people were nervous, while others were telling each other good luck before they performed. As they performed you could tell that they were kind of nervous, but as they got more into their performance, they acted as though they owned the stage. “I was excited and scared at the same time, but overall it was a fun experience,” said Makisha Regius, one of the contestants.

The audience--which served as the judge-- gave loud applause to crown Sabrina Lettsome as best soloist; TJ Square (Terique Sprauve, Jameel Williams, & Jaquan Hansby) as best rap group; Krista Braithwaite & Tishana Wilkens as best group singers; Kiara Penn as best pantomime dancer; and Candice Ennis as best model. “Overall all the contestants did great, and even though they didn’t get crowned, they are all still winners,” said Gabriella Samms, a student of Kean High.

After a week of ITBS Testing the performers came out on March 23, 2012 for an encore show. Ms Rhymer gave the performers some tips on how they could have improved after the previous show and they took what she said into their performance and did a great job.
