-The Drawing Club Welcomes All

Founder & President

The Drawing Club is amazing! The Librarian, Ms. Phyllis Warner, brags to our Principal Dr. Sharon McCollum and other administrators about the Drawing Club.

Ms. Warner said, “ We’re always correcting students when they do bad, so when you see students doing what they are supposed to do, we have to ‘big them up’ and congratulate them.”

Ms. warner was most impressed that the club was created and organized by students alone.

Laurent Lake, now a 12th grade student of Kean High, started the Drawing Club last year. “Me and my friend Kelly Brook originally started the group” he stated.

Laurent has been working hard to gain members for this club who really love to draw; he also helps those who are willing to learn. Since last year he has brought nine members in the club, and together they are working to gain more members.

This club is great for helping to build up a creativity for those who can’t draw images from their head. “We have one boy who was not the best at drawing, but he is progressing,” Laurent said.

The students practice whatever type of drawing they want to learn, whether it’s realistic or Anime characters. They also have books they can look at which will help them get a better idea on how to draw the proportions on the character’s body.

Laurent checked out two books that help some of the members get a good idea of where to draw in the details, and how to line up the eyes, nose, mouth, and etc.

The Drawing Club is also an organized group which has a President, a Secretary, and also a treasurer.

The President, Laurent Lake, gathers everybody and informs them about any changes if there are any. Secretary Nikkia Martin keeps all files and information neatly organized for whenever they need it. Treasurer, Samuel Jones keeps track of all the transactions made with any money that they have.

The Drawing Club meets after school on Wednesdays in room 217 (Ms. Etre’s room), and on Fridays they meet in the library. New members are always welcome.
