For the past four years the principal of Ivanna Eudora Kean High has been looking for funds to complete the school track. Finally the track has been restarted, and is scheduled to be open by June 2013.

Mr. Peter Seipel, the head of physical education at Kean, thinks that the track will be a great boost to the department. “I like that the track is almost finished,” he said. “It is a government project so there is ‘supposed’ to be enough money. The cost to complete the track is about $4.5 million.”

The track is going be certified by International Amateur Athletics Federations (IAAF). Some of the events this field will be able to showcase are football, soccer, and track. The field will have a bathroom.

“When it is finished, the public will be allowed to use it for some of their personal uses like practicing for some sports and exercising,” said Mr. Seipel.

Training for Kean’s athletes has been affected by the track’s delay since 2007. The school’s football team had to practice on the hot gravel to the right of the track this past fall, according to some of the team members.

Everyone at Kean High is happy that at last the track is almost done. One senior who actually has been working out and doing sports for the past four years said, “ I don’t care bout me, but at least give the children who are coming to this school something to do in the afternoon no’; because of the [delay] I never really use to practice like dah.”

Coming into the conversation, another junior said, “Buh wha’ you really talking about ? We still was practicing, just not the way we was suppose to. It ain't cause of the track people at this school wanna go out and play with each other in the street; it’s because they follow bad company.”

Responding to that comment, another senior said, “You ain’t making no kind of sense to me and the journalist right now because you going off the topic.”

One senior complained that “No one ever really talked about the track to us. We would love to know about the track and how soon will it be to finishing.” KeanWebExpress published a story about the track’s delay in 2010. "Kean Field Still Sidetracked"
