-Two Kean Beauties Compete for Carnival Queen

By: I.D.

It’s almost Carnival time, and you know what that means! No, it doesn’t just mean no school! It means the Carnival Queen Selection Show is coming up. This show will be held at the Lionel Roberts Stadium on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 7:00. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.

This year there are two beautiful, talented young ladies that will be there to represent the Devil Rays. They are Edysha Fredericks and Shahara-Ann Donastorg.

Contestant #1, Edysha Fredericks, was born and raised on St.Thomas on July 8, 1993. She is currently in the 12th grade at Ivanna Eudora Kean High School. Her ultimate goal is to attend Georgia Southern University to study nursing.

Before that she also plans to study dance at the Juilliard School in New York City where she can pursue her interests in fashion and performing.

“ What motivated me to run for the pageant is for the experience of representing our island and meeting new people, and also to build my self-esteem,” Edysha said. “The only thing that might prevent me from winning this pageant is if I don’t believe in myself, and I shouldn’t let the judges see my fault.

"I am ready to perform and to put my best foot forward," she added. Her motto is, “If you try and fail, try again, for success is golden.”

Also a senior, Shahara-Ann Donastrog is contestant #4. She was also born and raised on St. Thomas. Like Edysha, Shahara-Ann also wants to major in nursing, although her goal is to then become a midwife.

To prepare herself for this show, she practices “being true to myself.” She was motivated to run for queen by going to previous shows and seeing different segments which inspired her to compete. She says, “I am ready for the show and ask that all give their support to me and other contestants.”
