-Louis Farrakhan Enlightens Young Minds at CAHS

By: Aubrey Dawson Jr.

“This black on black violence has to stop” is the message Louis Farrakhan, the national leader of the Nation of Islam (N.O.I.) was trying to embed in the minds of students at CAHS on Thursday May 20th in the auditorium. The N.O.I. is a religious organization founded in Detroit, Michigan, by Wallace D. Fard Muhammad in July 1930. (www.noi.org. ) Muhammad’s main goal was to resurrect the spiritual, mental, social, and economic condition of men and women of African descent in America. They also promote the belief that God will bring about a universal government of peace. The N.O.I. teaches black people that they were the original humans. They also believe that there is no other God than Allah.

The famous leaders of the Nation of Islam were founder Wallace D. Fard Muhammad, Elijah Muhammad, Malcolm X, Warith Deen Muhammad, and now Prime Minister Louis Farrakhan. He was born with the name Louis Eugene Walcott on May 11, 1993. He later joined the Nation of Islam in 1955, and became Louis X. He quickly rose through the ranks of the Nation and in 1965 was appointed Prime Minister. He is a world renowned orator, often both praised and criticized.

Farrakhan is a very knowledgeable man. About 600 students from Ivanna Eudora Kean and Charlotte Amalie High School listened attentively to what he had to say. He started out talking about the malicious incident at the Cockpit on St.Thomas that left two young men dead and two wounded.

Louis Farrakhan said, “It’s sad the way young black men take the lives of one another so senselessly. I was told that the current murder total in the territory is at 36. Last year the Virgin Islands made number one above all the major crime cities in the United States in murders. Why is there so much violence amongst young black males in this day and age?

“We had more love for each other in slavery than we do now in our so-called freedom. Black people are the original inhabitants of the earth. Then it was taken from us as we became slaves for white people. You can’t let someone control you and think for you.

“The easiest way to destroy a race is to take away their ability to think. In schools they teach you about the Holocaust, which was the genocide of six million Jews by the Nazis and their leader Adolph Hitler. They also want to tell you about Christopher Columbus discovering America; don’t talk to me about Columbus discovering America because I don’t want to hear it.

“What they won’t tell you is about how the entire black race, the original people of this planet, became slaves to white people. In a part of Africa there is a country that coffins are the number one industry. The reason being is that 5,000 black people die every week from AIDS. This is 20,000 a month and 240,000 a year. There is also a part of the country where white people live. Do you want to know how many of them die from AIDS? Zero, not a single one. Why? I’ll tell you why. Because they want us to kill ourselves!”

He ended his speech by saying, “I want you to promise me that these two schools [IEKHS and CAHS] will never break peace with one another.” After that Dr. McCollum [principal of Kean] hugged Ms. Howell [principal of CAHS] and all the students clapped.

His words made me pay attention and I wanted to grasp every word. I really enjoyed listening to Minister Louis Farrakhan speak. I would love to listen to him once again later on in life. Hopefully, his words inspired others besides me and will prevent them from killing one another and achieve the universal government of peace.
