    • 1095-1109: First Crusade. Soldiers from Europe take much of the Levantine coast and establish states at Antioch, Edessa, Tripoli and Jerusalem.

    • 1105: 35th Theban Tribunal. Petronas becomes logothete, and will serve for almost a century.

    • 1106-1125: Reign of Henry V, last of the Salian dynasty.

    • 1108: Louis VI 'the Fat,' Philip's son, is crowned king in Orleans because his half-brother, Louis, prevents him from reaching Reims. Ralph, archbishop of Reims, challenges the validity of the coronation and anointing.

    • 1109: A plague of restless dead stirs in Picardy; they are banished by a group of hedge wizards who join the Order of Hermes, founding the Donatores lineage within House Ex Miscellanea.

    • 1115: St. Bernard founds Clairvaux Abbey. The covenant of Thermakopolis, dedicated to the defense of Constantinople, is founded by House Jerbiton.

    • 1116: Normandy Tribunal -- A landmark ruling is made on mundane resources, implicitly permitting mundane raiding.

    • 1117: The covenant of Florum moves; Spider's Palace is founded at the former site.

    • 1118: Peter Abelard comes to Paris. Basil, leader of the Bogomils, is burned for heresy in the Hippodrome. The covenant of Lapis Crudus becomes trapped in its regio and is considered lost.

    • 1122: Proclamation of the Concordat of Worms, settling the Investiture Contest between papacy and monarchy.

    • 1123: Covenant of Requies Aeterna founded by Donatores magi. Lamites, an anatolian covenant, founded and dedicated to prophecy.

    • 1124: Covenant of Lixivia disbanded. Covenant of Alcuin's Auberge founded.

    • 1125: Lothar II is narrowly elected king.

    • 1127: Conrad III is elected anti-king by the Swabians; start of conflict between the Welfs and Hohenstaufens. Geoffrey V of Anjou marries Matilda, daughter of Henry I of England. Lamites destroyed.

    • 1129: Fourteenth Grand Tribunal of the Order of Hermes. Normandy's ruling that the border between itself and the Provencal Tribunal should be based on linguistic dialect is upheld.

    • 1130: Pope Innocent II takes refuge in France.

    • 1131: Ahmed Sanjar, son of Malik Shah, consolidates control over the western Seljuk Empire.

    • 1134: A huge tidal wave strikes and reshapes the coast of Flanders; Bruges regains access to the North Sea.

    • 1136: Covenant of Moles Magna is founded.

    • 1137: Conrad III is elected king after the death of Lothar II, the start of the Hohenstaufen dynasty. Louis VII 'the Young,' second son of Louis VI, is crowned king and marries Eleanor of Aquitaine.

    • 1141: Insatella becomes Prima of House Mercere.

    • 1144: Rhine Tribunal orders three magi to form the covenant of Oculus Septentrionalis, dedicated to investigating the Order of Odin. Geoffrey V of Anjou conquers Normandy and becomes its duke. Zangi takes Edessa.

    • 1146-1147: The Second Crusade is preached by St. Bernard of Clairvaux. There is widespread slaughter of Jews in many Rhine cities and Wurzburg, amidst religious fervor. The Saxons mount their own campaign against the pagan Wends in Pomerania and the northeastern Marches.

    • 1147-1148: The Second Crusade fails to take Damascus.

    • 1148: Simprim starts the Transitionalist movement within House Guernicus.

    • 1149: Shansabani coup in Khurasan, lead by Ala'uddin Hussain, also called Jahansoz -- 'World Burner.'

    • 1151: Rhine Tribunal -- Dankmar accuses Durenmar of faerie molestation and of plundering faerie sites of the Black Forest for vis; with the support of Crintera, Irencillia and Fengheld, Durenmar is fined ten pawns of vis to every other covenant in the Tribunal and restricted from taking further vis from faerie sites for fourteen years, unless a peace is made with the fae. The covenant of Triamore is founded, attached to the court of Emperor Conrad III, by magi of the newly formed Apple Gild. Henry Planagenet, son of Geoffrey V of Anjou, inherits Normandy. Ghuzz invade southeastern Persia, capture Sultan Ahmed Sanjar, and hold him captive for three years. 41st Theban Tribunal recognized the covenant of Thumachia near Durazzo, founded to protect the western border of the Tribunal in response to the ravages of the Second Crusade.

    • 1152: Conrad III dies before being crowned in Rome; he is succeeded by his nephew, Frederick I, 'Barbarossa.' Henry marries Eleanor of Aquitaine.

    • 1154: Henry becomes Henry II, King of England; beginning of the Angevin dynasty.

    • 1155: Ulm becomes a Free Imperial City.

    • 1157: Henry 'the Lion', duke of Saxony and rival to Frederick I, seizes the settlement of Lubeck and develops it into a city. 'Abbasid caliph al-Muqtafi successfully defends Baghdad from Seljuks, securing the independence of the caliphate.

    • 1158: Rhine Tribunal -- The magi of Oculus Septentrionalis are fined for not having fulfilled their charter in establishing a base to study the Order of Odin. Agnes of Irencillia extraordinarily announces a sighting of the Founder Merinita in Bohemia, but little credence is paid to this claim. The Normandy covenant of Infelicitas is abandoned.

    • 1162: Fifteenth Grand Tribunal of the Order of Hermes. The Rhine Tribunal once again loses a boundary dispute over Poland to the Novgorod Tribunal.

    • 1163: Construction of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris begins. Moero’s Garden was founded in Constantinople.

    • 1164: The Relics of the Three Magi are taken by Frederick I from Milan and placed in the cathedral of Cologne.

    • 1165: Rhine Tribunal -- The covenant of Treverorum is found guilty of interfering in the affairs of mundanes and the Church, given a fine of fifty pawns of vis, and warned in the strongest possible terms to repair relations with the inhabitants of Trier without delay. Oculus Septentrionalis announces its new location in Lubeck to the Tribunal. Quaesitors, however, prompted by the current troubles of the Tribunal's other city covenant, Treverorum, insist on additions to their charter. The covenant of Terschelling is founded on the Friesian island of the same name.

    • 1166: Covenant of Nauche-Fleur in Normandy is abandoned.

    • 1168: The island of Rugen is invaded by the Danish king, Valdemar I; the pagan temple of Arkona is broken and the christianization of the island begins. Crintera is thrown into confusion and crisis.

    • 1171: Genoan colony at Galata, Constantinople burned to the ground. Then thousands Venetians in Constantinople are imprisoned, their ships and property confiscated. The Venetians raised a great fleet and sail to attack the Empire, but at Chios a terrible plague destroys the Venetian force.

    • 1172: Rhine Tribunal -- Treverorum is abandoned by its sole surviving magus and abolished. 44th Theban Tribunal -- Covenant of Favonius recognized, though at this stage still in construction stages.

    • 1174-1187: Saladin unites the Muslim levant, takes Jerusalem and much of the coast from crusaders.

    • 1175: The Philomela launched.

    • 1176: Hoping to win back territory lost at Manzikert, Manuel Komnenos led a large army against Iconium, the capitol of the Seljuk Turks. With poor planning and a lack of foresight, Manuel decided to attack while in the mountain passes near the fortress of Myriokephalon, and was utterly defeated. He was forced to accept a truce with the Seljuk sultan, which resulted in the loss of more of Anatolia.

    • 1179: Rhine Tribunal -- Primus Urgen of House Bjornaer accuses Occulus Septentrionalis of aiding the Danish invasion of Rugen, and kills its leader Prudentum in a Wizard's War.

    • 45th Theban Tribunal. The covenant of Favonius docks the Philomela at Delos. Death of Hildegard of Bingen.

    • 1180: Henry's lands in Saxony are divided and he is sent into exile. Phillip II 'Augustus's crowned king.

    • 1180-1225: Reign of the 'Abbasid caliph al-Nasir

    • 1182-1192: The Third Crusade. Crusaders secure territory on the coast but fail to take Jerusalem.

    • 1182: Covenant of Moles Magna (Normandy) is destroyed. Sicilians attack the Empire, taking Durazzo, and advancing down Via Egnatia. The covenant Thumachia was besieged and destroyed by Norman Sicilians led by William II, who terrorized the lands around Durazzo during their campaign. The surviving magi decided to join other covenants rather than rebuild Thumachia. In August, Thessaloniki is sacked, in an atrocity noted for sacrilege and horror. The covenant Oikos tou Eleous founded in response. House Tremere openly support a Bulgarin revolt, and in Thebes the League of Advisors is founded in response.

    • 1185: Tiranova rebellion leads to independence for Bulgarians.

    • 1186: Rhine Tribunal -- Crintera is denied permission from the Tribunal to expel the Danish invader under the 'Guardians of the Forest,' ruling. 46th Theban Tribunal recognizes covenant of Oikos tou Eleous. Logothete altered to a permanent position at this tribunal, after Petronas elected for his eleventh term.

    • 1187: Covenant of Atsingani (Normandy) is founded.

    • 1189: Hamburg is granted numerous trade privileges by Frederick I and becomes a Free Imperial City. Richard, later known as 'the Lionheart,' with the connivance of Phillip II, defeats his father Henry II of England at Ballans and succeeds him as King of England, Duke of Normandy, and Count of Anjou.

    • 1189-1192: The Third Crusade.

    • 1190: The Order of Teutonic Knights is founded in Acre, in Palestine. Frederick I dies on crusade. He is drowned while attempting to cross the River Seleph in Asia Minor on horseback. Philip II erects his huge fortress, the Louvre, in Paris.

    • 1190-1197: Reign of Henry VI.

    • 1191: Avarret of Bonisagus is elevated to Primus of House Bonisagus, marking a return to the conservative philosophy of refining the existing Hermetic theory. Monks at the Abbey of Glastonbury claim to have discovered the Tomb of King Arthur on Glastonbury Tor. Rene de la Croix is born in France, the son of a wealthy and influential family of knights and courtiers. Rodos captured by Richard the Lion- heart, who sells it.

    • 1192: Covenant of Cunfin is founded. Richard is imprisoned by the Holy Roman Emperor; Phillip II and John, Richard's brother, offer him 80,000 marks to keep Richard hostage, but are refused.

    • 1193: Tomas is born under mysterious circumstances.

    • 1194: Rhine Tribunal -- Falke of Bjornaer fails to persuade the Tribunal to permit the defense of Crintera. Birth of Frederick, son of Henry VI. Eleanor of Aquitaine pays a ransom of 150,000 marks and Richard is released. He wins a victory over Phillip II at Freteval. The Great Fire of Chartres -- much of the city and the cathedral is destroyed. Tekish, the ruler of Khwarazm, defeats Togril III, ending Seljuk rule of Persia. Breandan, the Gifted grandson of a Tytalus archmage, is born in Ireland.

    • 1195: Sixteenth and most recent Grand Tribunal of the Order of Hermes. Eva Wiebke is born in a village in Salzburg.

    • 1197: Covenant of Alcuin's Auberge in Normandy is destroyed. Alfgifu is born in Essex. Akakios is born to Kallisto, a Theban witch and hedge magician who dwells on a remote Greek island.

    • 1198: Two rival kings are elected in Germany: Philip of Swabia (Hohenstaufen) and Otto of Brunswick (Welf). Innocent III named Pope. Richard again defeats Philip II at the Battle of Gisors; Philip flees with his troops and is rescued from a river.

    • 1199: King Richard of England is slain by a stray arrow during a seige in Limousin; he is succeeded by John. Gustov is born in Normandy.

    • 1200: Rhine Tribunal -- Another covenant has been destroyed in the Rhine gorge. Rheinstein falls to an army of irate mundanes, led by the archbishop of Trier. The Tribunal rules that magi are forbidden from practicing any form of magical activity in the Rhine Gorge for the next twenty years. Covenant of Atramentum is founded in Normandy. Philip II charters the University of Paris.

    • 1201: Covenant of Exspectatio is founded on the site of Atramentum; the latter covenant is disbanded and reformed as Atramentum Renatus. The Danish king Valdemar II 'the Victorious' conquers Holstein. The Fourth Crusade to the Levant begins. The Crusade gathers at Venice, but lacks the money for passage. The doge agrees to transport them if the Crusaders will help him return the city of Zara to his control and give him half of any booty.

    • 1202: Archmage Pompius, a popular and well regarded Quaesitor, enters Final Twilight and turns to stone. The whole of the Fourth Crusade is excommunicated for the sack of Zara. Prince Alexius, Byzantine exile, offers crusaders aid and wealth in exchange for his restoration to throne of Empire. Catella of Bonisagus joined the Covenant of Alexandria. The Livonian Order of the Knights of the Sword is formed in Pomerania and Livonia to prosecute a crusade against the pagans of the Baltic. King John of England fails to respond to a summons to attend a French court; Philip II of France claims Anjou and invades Normandy, and supports the claims of Arthur of Brittany against John. This marks a turning point in the struggles between the Angevins and Capetians; thereafter, Philip II holds the upper hand in most of France.

    • 1203: Falke of Fengheld covenant becomes Prima of House Bjornaer. Crusaders besiege Constantinople; Emperor Alexios III Angelos flees in to exile. Alexios IV Angelos and Isaac II Angelos proclaimed joint emperors, but fail to meet promises made to the crusaders camped outside the city. By August, tensions between Byzantines and crusaders have mounted to sporadic fighting, and a skirmish leads to the Great Fire of Constantinople.

    • 1204: Alexios and David Kommenos, long time exiles in Georgia, seize Trebizond, creating Kingdom of Trebizond. Constantinople is taken again, and the Latin Empire created. Moero’s Garden flees to Nicaea. Ex Miscellanea covenant the Court of Fools destroyed in the fighting. The city was the stronghold of House Jerbiton, and several covenants were destroyed in the attack. Its loss is a crushing blow to the House. William de Champlitte founds Principality of Achaea following the great Battle of the Olive Grove. Latin Empire attacks exiles who have created a new capital at Nicea, smashing the Nicene forces at the Battle of Adramyttion. Venice claims the most strategically important ports: those of Candia, Rodos, Karpathos, and the Cyclades. The covenant of Eboris is founded in Paris. The witch Kallisto is killed by Hugh of Flambeau, who takes Akakios as spoils of war. A great festival is held at the Wartburg in Thuringia. Death of Eleanor of Aquitaine.

    • 1205: Sultanate besieges Trebizond but forced to withdraw. Greek nobles of Thrace rise in revolt, and Bulgarians under Tsar Kaloyan invade Latin Empire. Bulgarians capture and kill Emperor Baldwin I. Most members of covenant of Xylinites flee in to exile in Western Europe from Constantinople. Following death of Doge Dandolo, Doge Pietro Ziani becomes leader of Venetian Republic. Battle of the Olive Grove, and subsequent creation of the state of Epiros by defeated rebel Michael Kommenos Doukas. Ala al-Din (son of Tekish) conquers Persia and proclaims himself shah (emperor). St. Arnulf's Walk -- A jovial, red-capped man wanders through Italy, the Holy Roman Empire, and France collecting evil and wicked children. All kinds of children, some cursed, touched by fairies, or merely misbehaving, are gathered up by the mysterious Arnulf, who thankfully leads them away from their much put-upon parents. To the relief of everyone, none of the children are ever seen again. reandan, Akakios, Gustov, Tomas, Eva Wiebke, Rene de la Croix and the girl called Garcette are among twenty new apprentices in the Greater Alps.

Future Events

    • 1207: 49th Theban Tribunal -- Redcap Cosmas ostracized, possibly for dynastic connections. Petronas abdicates as logothete. Covenant of Novocastrum founded in Western Thessaloniki

    • 1212: Covenant of Novocastrum destroyed as Epiros attacks the Kingdom of Thessaloniki.

    • 1213: Murion selected as Prima of House Bonisagus.

    • 1216: Honorius III is Pope.

    • 1218: Tremere Decennial. Primus Umno retires to lead the Burning Acorn Vexillation. Poena becomes Prima of House Tremere and begins a series of research covenants. Bilera elected as Guernicus Prima.
