Projects

  • Further Refine Lab! Add Lesser Expansion, then Vis Source (seasonal effects: it rains indoors in spring, fires in the summer, winds in autumn and snow in winter). +1 Warping, -1 Safety, +2 Muto, Imaginem becomes inactive. And finally Opulent.

  • Time for the Talisman: I can now spend 16 vis in a season, which allows me to open precious gems like a ruby. So now I just need to decide what the talisman's shape is going to be,

    • Increase Casting Totals with key spells: Rego x3, Creo, Perdo, Corpus, Ignem, Mentem, Terram and Vim (Wizard's Leap, Pilum of Fire, Penitent's Confession, Exarmo, Demon's Eternal Oblivion). This suggests Rego is key, which would help Wizard's Leap, Penitent's Confession and Exarmo. We have The Scepter of the Order, which is Quality 15 (+3=18!). She could get to a 15 in a total of 5 seasons, raising all these spells by 8.

    • Learn a Ward Against Demons? (Another spell which would benefit from improving Rego.)

    • Learn Quaesitorial magic: She doesn't know Trust Me or Aura of Inconsequence, but she covered the latter with a lesser enchanted item. She should also buy and learn The Molting Magus and begin to learn spells to preserve and read spell traces, which she currently cannot do at all. (She is very good at gathering witness testimony. She's starting to get better at collecting physical evidence. Spell traces will be the third step in her progress as an investigator.) If spell trace magic doesn't need to penetrate, could she put this into a talisman?

    • Master Conjuration of Bread and then make a casting tablet out of it: Covenant service. This ensures the castle cannot be taken by siege.

    • Copy her own Spells: A good way of doing covenant service each year, especially if she has no Librarian spells to learn.

    • Invent Unraveling the Fabric of Mentem: At the moment, she would invent a level 25 spell, which can reliably cancel Mentem spells of level 35-40. But that might be overdoing it, and a 20 might be best. This might be a good effect to put in a Talisman.

    • Learn a Low Level Offensive Spell: Maybe Sealing the Lips (ReCo 10, silences target, MoH 58) and Trap of Amber (ReCo 15, makes target unable to move, MoH 85),

    • Enchant the Familiar Bond: CrMe 15 x2 to transmit complex thoughts, InMe 30 x2 to share a sense. In addition to her regular lab total (40 at the moment of writing), she would get a +5 Form bonus for Mentem. (for 45, enough to do Mental Communication x2 or one of the Shared Senses.)

    • Increase her Mastery of Pilum of Fire: Ideally, we would add Penetration and Magic Resistance, which would take 25 XP.

    • Invent a spell to send her words on the wind, to partner with Whispering Wind.

    • Elementals: The small lake on the Hill could house a Size +6 elemental with Might 25. A spell to rarify such a creature would be a CrAq 40 requiring 8 pawns of vis and two hours. Presumably such a lab text exists, but would be rare, probably costing 8 pawns to buy. Her current CrAq lab total is only 37. Presumably she would also need a spell to command the elemental, which would be ReAq 30, and that spell would have to penetrate the elemental's Might 25 to be effective. But after further investigation, an Earth elemental is so much better in a fight than a water one, and we can use the hill of Uisneach itself. Potentially the elemental could be colossal in size, so the real limit is: what is Alfeva able to control? If she has an arcane connection to it and can use sympathetic magic?

    • To Acquire: Mastery of Pose the Silent Question, so she can get Quiet and Subtle casting.

    • Invent Incantation of the Burning Mail, in a single season (I have the lab total for this).

    • Enchant flaming weapons for the turb. As Blade of Virulent Flame: Base 5, +1 Diameter. Possibly add Penetration or more than 1/day? Alternately: Arrows of Abyssal Flame. Charged item, +30 fire damage, Range Touch, +30 Penetration, level 50 effect. She makes 1 arrow, but then can make 10 in a season.

Ring of the Winds (BAD PLAN)

Not a Talisman, but a magical ring.

Circling Winds of Protection effect: As the spell (Cr[Re]Au 20). Note if this was in a Talisman, it could be Range: Personal and so 5 levels lower. Item maintains Concentration = +5, for a total level of 25. 6 uses per day raises this to a level 28 effect.

Lab Total: 19 ReAu + 4 Int + 5 Magic Theory + 5 Aura + 2 Lab = 35. That's a year of work!

If put in a talisman, the effect would only be 23 and she'd have a +5 bonus for a Lab Total of 40, which means -- with a Shape/Material bonus and a lab routine -- she could do it in a single season Obviously, Talisman is the way to go for this.

Alfeva's Incantation of the Burning Mail (Mu[Cr]Te[Ig] 25)

R: Voice, D: Diam, T: Ind

The target's metal torso armor is simultaneously made flammable and set on fire. The spell does not transform the metal to wood, but rather makes the metal capable of catching fire, as flammable as dry wood. Base damage is +5, tripled to +15 because half the target's body is in contact with the flame. The metal armor gives no protection against this attack (because it's on fire!), but metal armor is usually worn over a cloth gambeson which grants Protection 1. The target takes damage 20 times over the course of the spell.

Base 3 (change earth so it is slightly unnatural), +1 Voice, +1 Diameter, +2 to affect metal, +1 Creo, +1 Ignem
