The hashers all met at Port of Kurihama, were greeted by Kim Will Run and caught the Tokyo Wan Ferry at 12:15 for Port Kanaya. The 40 minute ferry ride was enjoyable and the weather was very supportive for this hash although it rained the night before. Nice views of the surrounding local area and it gave us a chance to enjoy some ferry bento specials. Kim Will Run had a clipboard and collected all the hash cash. She was reminded prior to departing the ferry not to forget the clipboard.

Harriers and harriettes met with Santa Maria at Port Kanaya and took a 10-15 minute walk to the start location. We started the chalk talk without chalk. Santa Maria explained that the owner of the mountain, if there is such person, was upset for marking his mountain with chalk. Sounds like the 1933 animated Betty Bop Cartoon “The Old Man of the Mountain”. I don’t believe it. But because of this old man’s disappointment, we were not given chalk to mark the trail, checkpoints or check backs. This is a familiar theme with Santa Maria. Remember no chalk at Nihon-Odori Run #81?! The hare was not done marking the trail and needed that clipboard that Kim Will Run was told not to forget. Guess What?!! She forgot the clipboard on the ferry. Back to the ferry they go.

Hares were off and the trail was nicely marked almost every 30 meters. I knew that was a sign of future disaster because I had no faith that Santa Maria can keep up with this amazing marking. I was correct. After arrival to the first checkpoint, it went downhill from there. Added to the difficulty of no chalk, we had to figure out a way to mark the trail. Using our ingenuity, we gathered twigs or rocks to mark trail to assist the hashers behind us. There were plenty of muddy hills, mountains and great scenery. It was a breathtaking hash trail given the limitations that was put upon us. However, no old man of the mountain could be found.

We arrived at the finish seconds, minutes and hours from each other. Some hashers got lost but we all found the finish point which is always a plus. Beer, wine, and various snacks were waiting for us. One of our youngest hasher ever, Kei, seems to have enjoyed herself as well although she substituted her beer for some warm mommy milk. Several new hashers joined us as well and we enjoyed a quick introduction during our circle talk. The restaurant was within eyesight and we were all ready for some good grub.

After arriving at the restaurant, Santa Maria was his usual talkative self until he fell asleep 15 minutes later. Yeah!! We let him snore peacefully while we enjoyed some great Japanese cuisine. This is Hayama Hash House Harriers and we expect nothing less. The camaraderie was great and we enjoyed chatting with friends and new hashers. The food and drinks were delicious and plentiful. Of course Kei was the cutest and adorable little baby whom caught the eyes of all the female hashers. Maybe I should but me one?? lol

After our bellies were full, we started our trek to the ferry for our return ride to Port Kurihama. We were scattered all over the ferry but a few of us ordered beers one last time to cap off the evening and take some photos. 40 minutes later, we all went our separate ways blessed with another fantastic Hash provided by 4H.

Remember Hares, chalk is not an option, it is required!! Good job Santa Maria and Kim Will Run. Doing an away hash everyone once in a while is a great idea. On-On.
