In 2008, the founding members of the Hayama Hash House Harriers were told that they'd be lucky to survive a year with a new hash. In 2017 they celebrated their 9th anniversary with a classic hill climb. Starting out at Keikyu Mutsuura station everyone got fair warning that our hares, Sweetie, Fullerair, and Dragonfly had found us a course that required some limber ankles and some limbo skills. They weren't kidding. After a quick anniversary photo we were off on the trail.

Starting out in Mutsuura neighborhood, the group did some quick cuts through the eastern end of the Higashiasahina neighborhood, found a check, then we were quickly up into the woods in Asahinacho. Once into the woods the run became a mix of chip trail, rocks, mud, leaves, and tree roots. One had to exercise extreme caution in running up and down through the woods. This hound almost rolled an ankle a dozen times trying to run around the roots and rocks.

The hares were kind to point out to keep the permieter fence of the US Navy Ikego base to our left. Absent this information we may have quickly fallen off trail and headed away from the true path. There weren't many tricks or twists through the woods, as honestly there wasn't much opportunity for them. However, the steep drops on the side of the trail made one exercsie some amount of caution in where they stepped. One false step too far to the right and you'd be down the hill and probably on your way to the hospital.

Passing through the Juniso neighborhood the hounds were treated to a beautiful course of bamboo forests and a small mountain pond. There was an initial Eagle-Turkey split that had us laughing as it rejoined after only two blocks. However, the true Eagle appeared a few blocks after that and we had more ground to cover. After crossing quickly through Hisagi and into Ikego we found ourselves in the back of the Ikego and headed out into the neighborhood outside the Keikyu Jimmuji station. A quick run around the athletic park of Ikego and a short zig-zag run through the neighborhoods of Sakurayama finally brought us all to our destination at the famous Six-Generation Tomb and Worship House. The FRB managed to complete this 10-11KM course in just one hour yet no harassment was dispensed, to this hasher's disappointment.

The hounds having all come in, a circle was called, and the hares being the GM and RA somehow avoided being lampooned by the group. Everyone has to curse their names in silence lest they should feel their wrath. Sweetie, Fuller Air, and Dragonfly provided a delicious post run snack and it appears we were finally able to get through the beer that is now at least three hashes old. Still tasted fine to this hasher though. As a nice treat, everyone got the chance to enjoy some nice wine provided by the hares which got a few more sauced than others and made for a more rowdy circle.

For the On-On we were all treated to a quaint little vegan restaurant around the corner called "Beach Muffin." The four course meal provided consisted of a squash soup, a fresh greens salad, a veggie burger, and some ice cream and brownies for dessert. The tables were well stocked with more wine and it appeared to this hasher that all the hounds were jovial and tipsy with appetities sated and thirsts quenched. The staff there was clearly working fast and furious with the 4H occupying every seat in the house and then some. They did a great job of waiting on such a large and rowdy bunch! In the end it was a very enjoyable anniversary hash. With five runs under my belt I'm looking forward to hash number six next month where we'll have a live trail for the annual Jesus and Jimmy Hash!
