Hayama kicked off the Gispert Memorial Run Hash on February 10th with a whooping 40 participants!! We started from the location where the January run left off. We were so fortunate to have nice clear sunny weather, even if the temperatures were not as warm as we would like. Hashers started arriving around 2:30 pm on a clear but cold Sunday afternoon. Whore with no name and Evil Keel introduced themselves to new faces, “I Fight People With Alzheimer’s” and “Dirty Manchez”, from Washington State. They are working on the base for a few months. Tapeworm and Sweetie arrived shortly afterwards. Among the participants were three virgins invited by In The Shitter. Wakana is a virgin runner brought by in the shitter. Virgin number six in the last three hashes! Toilet Tugger joins us for the first time. He comes to us from Montreal, Canada. He comes to Japan frequently. Travesty brings a newbie Paul from the base.

Crusader gave us all a history lesson as he kicked off the run. He told us about A.S. Gispert, the inspirational founder of our August disorganization. This month marks the 77th anniversary of his death (well almost, as he died on 11 February 1942). After Crusader’s brief the Eagles were released. The routes had FOUR Turkey – Eagles splits and were lots fun with great views. Within the first half-kilometer, the Eagles had the first Check Back. The path continued past a temple, then into through a graveyard. The views were fabulous on the clear Sunday afternoon, as the group could see Monkey Island from the path. Everybody made it to the meeting place and enjoyed beer, wine, chocolates, cookies, chips, nuts, cheese, bread, crackers, etc.

The eating and drinking continued at the restaurant named "Di Punto". This restaurant had an Italian theme. The meal started out with a platter of salad with prosciutto. A second salad followed, then a shrimp dish. The next round of food was an Italian version of Shepard’s Pie. A pasta dish with an anchovy flare followed. The meal concluded with raspberry shaved ice. During this time, Wendy received her hash name – “Bleeding Gash”. Her name comes from one of her earlier runs with the group where she experienced a blood nose.
