Cold Remedies

Cold remedy suggestions from SCDer's on social media.

  • Tea made with lemon, honey, and fresh ginger.

  • If making a fresh chicken soup add lots of fresh garlic slivers if you can handle it.

  • Sleep!

  • Hot water with lemon and honey

  • Try taking a 1 cup jelly canning jar and slicing lemon into it. Then peel and slice fresh ginger. Pour honey over it. Shake well and let it sit a bit. Take a tbsp full and make a hot tea with it. I like a strong cut black tea.

  • Gargle with salt water and a couple DROPS of tea tree essential oil. This takes away my sore throat every time. I also use a DROP or two in a neti pot with salt water. It can be an intense feeling and it is unsure if it's good for my nose but it halts a cold in it's tracks every time.

  • I always go for ginger tea with lemon if I get a bug. Peel and grate fresh ginger root and steep in boiling water for 15 minutes or longer. Then add lemon. I never add honey but you could. Ginger's good for nausea too.

  • MAGGIE’S COUGH REMEDY

  • Winter Sore Throat "Tea". Make sure you have some of this ready...great recipe for sore throats and chest colds. It makes about 2 cups ◾2 lemons thoroughly cleaned and sliced ◾2 piece of ginger about the size of your pointer and middle finger together sliced into coin size pieces ◾Honey (about 1 cup-maybe more) In a 12-16 oz. jar combine lemon slices and sliced ginger. Pour honey (organic is best) over it slowly. This may take a little time to let the honey to sink down and around the lemon and ginger slices. Make sure when the honey has filled in all the voids, there is enough to cover the top of the lemon slices. Close jar and put it in the fridge, it will form into a "jelly". To serve: Spoon jelly into mug and pour boiling water over it. Store in fridge 2-3 months.

  • Grapefruit seed extract in netti pot w/ normal solution. I have gotten rid of sinus and ear infections in the past by using diluted ACV straight in my ear, and in my neti pot.

  • You can gargle with a table spoon of apple cider vinegar and it will typically knock it out, but you must get it early. Like, the minute you feel a little twinge in your nose or the back of your throat. My 92 year old Dad used to swear he'd never had a cold in his life with that remedy. It takes a little getting used to, for sure, but I can say, it has worked for me many times.

  • Sore Throat "Tea" In a Jar. Combine lemon slices, organic honey and sliced ginger. Close jar and put it in the fridge, it will form into a "jelly". To serve, spoon jelly into mug and pour boiling water over it. Store in fridge 2-3 months.

  • Take about 4-5 cloves of garlic and put them through a garlic press. Add about 2 tbsp of manuka honey or plain honey if you don't have manuka. Add about 1/8 tsp of cayenne pepper (or less if you can't tolerate that much heat). Stir it all up. Let it sit so all the juices come out for about an hour. Then have a tablespoon of it every hour (if it's too strong you can chase it with water). The key is to just swallow it quickly. This will seriously STOP any cold dead in it's tracks but you need to do it about 4-5 times in a day and it will disappear. Sounds gross, but it totally works!!! I even stopped strep throat with it. Good luck.

  • Gargle with a tablespoon of Apple cider vinegar – best to do this early – like when you feel that tingle in your nose. Knocks it out right away.

  • Cold tonic: I have been drinking this for colds for years. Happily, all ingredients are SCD legal! Put in a mug:
