Hobbs End
In Hobbs End, Kathy Najimi lookalike Catarina Conti plays Laci Cole, a widow living in a remote titular town. When her new handyman Todd (Brennan Elliott, "Strong Medicine") arrives, Lacey finds herself oddly attracted to him for his resemblance to her dead husband... but as the evening progresses, it becomes clear that he's no prince charming...
Most of the movies on this site are merely underappreciated, but Hobbs End is outright hated, which I've never understood. Poorly mismarketed to slasher fans with a wholly misleading DVD cover and text on the box that gives away the twist, it's actually a stagy psychological horror-thriller, and not a bad one at that... though it's not without its clunky, illogical moments, and a subplot about an ancient curse that virtually goes nowhere. Released straight to DVD, the movie seems to be out of print, but there's doubtlessly still copies floating about in Walmart bargain bins, it can be rented from Netflix and copies on amazon.com start as low as six cents! But whatever you do, don't read the box before watching the film!
