Soundtrack
A soundtrack for the 2002 NBC version of "Carrie" does exist, but it was only released as a promotional item from Access Denied Music (read press release). The CD was released in a flimsy paper sleeve (though the above photo has been adopted as the unofficial cover) and includes eleven songs used in the film. It's not unusual for discs to be released as promotion and never made available for sale in record stores. Here's a bit of the backstory, from Mark at Access Denied Music:
"One of Access Denied's bands, Hypnogaja, was asked by the producers to provide several songs for various scenes in the film, including the end title. They also chose to use the band's circle-H logo t-shirt in one of the classroom scenes early in the film. As they got closer to completing production, they approached us about any other artists/styles of music that we could provide as source music. So, we came up with various pieces that worked."For the Hollywood premiere of the film, our company pressed and distributed a limited edition (2,000 copies) of the pop soundtrack for the film. We gave them away to those who attended."
Most of the songs on the disc are by Hypnogaja (and their frontman, Jason "Shyboy" Arnold). Hypnogaja's songs also appeared on their now out-of-print album, "Post-Hypnotic Stress Disorder" and a live, acoustic version of the song "Outside Looking In" was released on their 2006 album "Acoustic Sunset." You can also visit Hypnogaja's website or their MySpace page for more information on the band and their other albums. It looks like Access Denied Music is now defunct, so chances of finding an actual CD soundtrack are pretty slim unless you stumble onto one on eBay -- and they don't show up there often. Thankfully mp3s of the CD are circulating online. Might even find some here, if you look. Laura Karpman's score for the film has never been committed to disc, but she offered 13 streaming tracks on her official website (under the crime/thriller heading). Some of these cues aren't cited in BMI's database, and others (Carrie Confronts Margaret, Carrie Out of Trance, Fire Memory, Margaret Begs, She See Chaos) aren't included on her site.
