Sissy Spacek's Albums
Sissy Spacek's first attempt at breaking into showbiz, even before she began acting, was as a singer. In 1969, she recorded the novelty song "John, You Went Too Far This Time" (damning John Lennon for his then recent nude "Two Virgins" album cover) and released it as a 45 single under the name "Rainbo" with a b-side called "C'Mon Teach Me To Live." Unsurprisingly, the single failed to do anything, Spacek was dropped from the record label and she pursued a career in film. Although the song was basically ignored at the time, it's since gotten some airplay on Dr. Demento's radio show, and appeared on several CDs (including Beatles novelty song discs).
After a successful role in the bio-film COAL MINER'S DAUGHTER as Loretta Lynn -- which boasted a best-selling soundtrack. Spacek again tried to launch a music career. Like most of the other CARRIE cast members who did the same, this career was to be short-lived. In 1983, she released the album "Hangin' Up My Heart." The album presumably sold better than William Katt's album from the same era, but it was hardly what one would call a huge success, spawning the hit single "Lonely But Only For You." What starts out as a twangy old-style country album with the title track soon gives way to a plethora of country-pop songs, including covers of songs by Hank Williams ("Honky Tonkin') and David Pomeranz ("Old Home Town") and two tunes that she penned herself ("He Don't Know Me" and "Smooth Talkin' Daddy" the latter of which was co-written with Loretta Lynn). The album was produced by singer/songwriter Rodney Crowell, and included Roseanne Cash and Vince Gill as backing vocalists...
Although "Hangin' Up" was basically the end of Spacek's music career, she made one last foray into the music world in 1991, when she joined an all-star cast for "Voices That Care," a single and accompanying documentary that was meant to boost the morale of American troops involved in Operation Desert Storm. In a sea of celebrities, however, her vocals aren't especially distinctive.

John, You Went Too Far This Time lyrics
Everything you asked of me, I did, John
From holding hands to living in a sunlit submarine
And you were something special when you said, John,
That you had more disciples than the man who was too green
John, I love you
But you went too
Far
This time
John, I love you
But you went too
The man with the foolish grin
Is you
I recall you turned me on with Pepper
The tour we took with Lucy was a trip I won't forget
And John, I loved you when we both wore flowers
But putting down your guru brought confusion and regret
John, I love you
But you went too
Far
This time
Now I gaze in awe before that picture
My mind retires to the place it was before you came
I love the things you showed me up 'til now, John
But since that picture, I don't think my love will be the same
John, I love you
But you went too
Far
This time
John, I love you
Alone on a hill
The man with the foolish grin
Is you

HANGIN' UP MY HEART
Well I'm hangin' up my heart
Dim the lights in the bunkhouse
I don't wanna be wounded
By a wrong kind of love
No more rodeo dancin'
No more howlin' at the moonlight
I'm gonna give 'em up
And I'm hangin' up my heart
If I were you, I'd never have said goodbye
And left a broken heart
If I were you, I'd never have played the game
To fool me from the start
Well I'm hangin' up my heart
Dim the lights in the bunkhouse
I don't wanna be wounded
By a wrong kind of love
No more rodeo dancin'
No more howlin' at the moonlight
I'm gonna give 'em up
And I'm hangin' up my heart
If I were you, I'd try to understand
And see my point of view
If I were you, I'd never be the one
That treats me like you do
Late in the night been workin' every day
To keep you satisfied
It just ain't right to hear you say to me
That you would let love die
Well I'm hangin' up my heart
Dim the lights in the bunkhouse
I don't wanna be wounded
By a wrong kind of love
No more rodeo dancin'
No more howlin' at the moonlight
I'm gonna give 'em up
And I'm hangin' up my heart
I'm gonna give 'em up
And I'm hangin' up my heart

HAVE I TOLD YOU LATELY THAT I LOVE YOU?
Have I told you lately that I love you?
Can I tell you once again somehow?
Have I said with all my heart and soul how I adore you?
Well, darlin', I'm tellin' you now
This heart would break in two if you refuse me
I'm no good without you anyhow
Have I told you lately that I love you?
Well, darlin', I'm tellin' you now
Have I told you lately, when I'm sleepin',
Every dream I dream is you somehow?
Have I told you how the nights are long when I'm not with you?
Well, darlin', I'm tellin' you now
This heart would break in two if you refuse me
I'm no good without you anyhow
Have I told you lately that I love you?
Well, darlin', I'm tellin' you now
Well, darlin', I'm tellin' you now

HE DON'T KNOW ME
Achin' to see me
Beggin' to be with me sometime
He don't even know me
Convinced that he'll show me
The time of my life
I doubt it
He don't know me well enough to call my name
When's my birthday? What's my mother's maiden name?
He knows where I'm goin'
He'll be there all glowin'
To meet me
Present me with roses
Insist on some poses
To prove to his friends
He knows me
He don't know me well enough to call my name
When's my birthday? What's my mother's maiden name?
Sometimes when I'm dreamin'
I wake myself screamin'
Insists that we're old friends
Tells others that we've spent
Most of our lives
Together
And then to convince them
I passed the ??
It's part of his lies
He scares me
He don't know me well enough to call my name
When's my birthday? What's my mother's maiden name?
Sometimes when I'm dreamin'
I wake myself screamin'

Lonely But Only For You
My friend set me up
With someone they know I'll just love
They say
"Aw, he's just your type
He's just the right one
To chase your blues away"
Friends are such good arrangers
But I'm not in the mood for strangers
Honey, I'm lonely but only for you
I'm only lonely for all the things we used to do
Hey, I can function quite well
Hey, you can hardly tell
That I'm lonely, but only for you
Yes, I'm lonely, but only for you
Now I miss the love
The touch that melted night into dawn
Oh, I miss the talks
I miss that shoulder I know I can lean on
It's the same old story
No one else does anything for me
Honey, I'm lonely but only for you
I'm only lonely for all the things we used to do
Hey, I can function quite well
Hey, you can hardly tell
That I'm lonely, but only for you
Yes, I'm lonely, but only for you
Yes, I'm lonely, but only for you
Yes, I'm lonely, but only for you
Yes, I'm lonely, but only for you

This Time I'm Gonna Beat You to the Truck
Well, you come to the door with them alibi eyes
Lookin' at the floor and tellin' me lies
Well, you can fool the floor, but you can't fool me
I got my own way, I got my own set of keys
This time, I'm gonna beat you to the truck
I wanna drink what you've been drinkin'
Want you to think what I've been thinkin'
This time I'm gonna beat you to the truck
Well, I don't have to scream and I ain't gonna cry
Just kiss these particular blues goodbye
Well, I'm tellin' you for the very last time
That the shortest way to trouble is a very straight line
This time I'm gonna beat you to the truck
I wanna drink what you've been drinkin'
Want you to think what I've been thinkin'
This time I'm gonna beat you to the truck
Well, wasn't it you that said, "Don't wait up?"
So take a long, ol' drink from that same old cup
Cuz I'm going where they ain't got no phone
Don't touch me if you can't leave me alone
This time, I'm gonna beat you to the truck
I wanna drink what you've been drinkin'
Want you to think what I've been thinkin'
This time I'm gonna beat you to the truck
This time, I'm gonna beat you to the truck
I wanna drink what you've been drinkin'
Want you to think what I've been thinkin'
This time I'm gonna beat you to the truck

Honky Tonkin'
If you and your sweet darlin'
Have a fallin' out
Well, come and see me, honey
And we'll go steppin' out
And well go honky tonkin', honky tonkin'
Honky tonkin', honey baby
Well go honky tonkin' around this town
Well, I'm goin' to the city - to the city fair
If you go to the city, darlin', you will find me there
And well go honky tonkin', honky tonkin'
Honky tonkin', honey baby
Well go honky tonkin' around this town
If you are sad and lonely and don't know where to go
Then come and see me, honey, and bring along some dough
And well go honky tonkin', honky tonkin'
Honky tonkin', honey baby
Well go honky tonkin' around this town
And well go honky tonkin', honky tonkin'
Honky tonkin', honey baby
Well go honky tonkin' around this town

Old Home Town
Oh, you're so damn sweet to come home to
You're just like an old home town
What a welcome relief
From the daily runnin' 'round
I wanna take you and hold you forever
I wanna kiss you up and down
Oh, you're so damn sweet to come home to
You're just like an old home town
Each workin' day I think about
Just how fine it's gonna be
When the whistle blows
And I feel you close to me
I'm a girl again in a pile of leaves
Runnin' through the snow on Christmas Eve
When my life is falling all apart
You take me home, back to my heart
You're so damn sweet to come home to
You're just like my old home town
What a welcome relief
From the daily runnin' 'round
I wanna take you and hold you forever
I wanna kiss you up and down
Oh, you're so damn sweet to come home to
You're just like my old home town
I wanna take you and hold you forever
I wanna kiss you up and down
Oh, you're so damn sweet to come home to
You're just like my old home town
Oh, you're so damn sweet to come home to
You're just like my old home town

Smooth Talkin' Daddy
Smooth talkin' daddy
You'd better quit your foolin' around
You got a fast-thinkin' mama
And she's a - about to figure you out
You got a fast thinkin' mama
Fast thinkin' mama
So smooth talkin' daddy
Ain't got the time to get the jump on me, no
You go love up her time
You done loved up on mine
I ain't got nothin' left for you, honey
Changed the locks on my door
Your key don't fit here no more
I got my bedroom changed 'round
And I'm ready
Smooth talkin' daddy
You'd better quit your foolin' around
You got a fast-thinkin' mama
And she's a - about to figure you out
You got a fast thinkin' mama
Fast thinkin' mama
So smooth talkin' daddy
Ain't got the time to get the jump on me
Tore all your pictures down
Threw out the clothes that I found
Cuz I'm cleanin' my house out, honey
Gonna get over you
By gettin' everything new
Cuz you hurt me the last time, honey
Smooth talkin' daddy
You'd better quit your foolin' around
You got a fast-thinkin' mama
And she's a - about to figure you out
You got a fast thinkin' mama
Fast thinkin' mama
So smooth talkin' daddy
Ain't got the time to get the jump on me, no

If You Could Only See Me Now
If you could see me now
I bet that you'd be sorry
You walked on me that day
If you could see me now
You'd see what you've been missin'
Try to get me back some way
I don't think I like you anymore
After what you did
And I don't need you, that's for sure
You broke my heart and made me lonely
But I could pay you back
If you could only see me now
Big ol' house, real fine car
I got everything you left me for
I don't think I like you anymore
After what you did
And I don't need you, that's for sure
You broke my heart and made me lonely
But I could pay you back
If you could only see me now
If you could only see me now
If you could only see me now

If I Can Just Get Through the Night
I started seein' double
I got myself concerned
I'm headed right for trouble
And I got no way to turn
I can always give it up tomorrow
I can lose my sorrow in the mornin' light
I'm gonna give it up tomorrow
But I gotta live it up tonight
And if I can just get through tonight
I will give it all up tomorrow
If I can just get through tonight
It's gonna be alright, it's gonna be alright
I'll get myself together
As natural as I can
Stay that way forever
My future's in your hands
I can always give it up tomorrow
I can lose my sorrow in the mornin' light
I'm gonna give it up tomorrow
But I gotta live it up tonight
And if I can just get through tonight
I will give it all up tomorrow
If I can just get through tonight
It's gonna be alright, it's gonna be alright
I can always give it up tomorrow
I can lose my sorrow in the mornin' light
I'm gonna give it up tomorrow
But I gotta live it up tonight
And if I can just get through tonight
I will give it all up tomorrow
If I can just get through tonight
It's gonna be alright, it's gonna be alright
