“Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.”

Jesus talks about his omniscience here and the fact that he sees us in all of our hidden moments in our heart. These words brought about a special memory in the mind of Nathanael, and he knew immediately what Jesus was talking about. Not one other being could have brought about something so memorable and notable as those words that Jesus spoke to Nathanael.
There is nothing hidden from God, even in our deepest of moments that we invest great amounts of time to keep secret. We are being watched from the moment we are born until the second that we die. To be able to accept that God is omniscient and that we are being watched is a most important step in our Christian maturity. Some things are kept secret and hidden from other human beings, but not from God. Maybe even those within the Spirit of God may watch over us, praying for us, seeing us within their mind's eye, hoping for our safety and security. When we as Christians are saved, we are buried into the body of Christ, to be reborn into eternal life, never having to face the death of the soul. The body may die and lay buried in the grave, but the soul lives forever in the body of Christ, the living church. Even those Christians who have gone on before us are still there in Spirit within the body of Christ. We are watching over each other, through God's Holy Spirit. God watches us, sees us, and sometimes reminds us that all the secrets of the heart are known to him.

There comes a time in every person's life when they finally realize that all their actions have reactions and they are never alone. Someone is always watching over them in some spiritual way. That someone is God. Nathanael realized the importance of the words of Jesus on that day when Jesus said that he saw him under the fig tree. Whether it was when he was a child, or as an adult praying under the shade of the fig tree, or as a metaphor of his future existence, Nathaniel knew at that moment in time that Jesus was the Son of God, the eternal one. We must all walk the narrow way and enter in at the strait gate, the one where all our actions are known to God and we correct our moral walk to conform with the words of Jesus Christ, which he told us to always remember. Pray always that we walk in the steps of Christ in order to be acceptable in our last days. Pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ that God will also guide, lead, and direct their pathway and that we would all be able to accept the omniscience of God to watch over us eternally, knowing the deepest secrets of our heart.
