8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

I think that God favors people who take His word and hide it in their hearts, making the valuable lessons of the Bible a daily part of their lives. At least they take His advice and apply it to their passage of time through life, reaping the benefits of His wisdom. In that way they avoid most of the evil that is in the world, which seeks to make us less than what we are actually capable of being.
The Japanese Samurai considered their sword, the katana, to be the soul of the warrior. There is an old fable that two Samurai wanted to test the sharpness of their katanas. One placed his sword in a fast rushing stream, and his blade cleanly cut through all the leaves in the stream that made contact with the sharp edge. With the other, after he placed his blade in the rushing stream, all the leaves just seemed to purposefully avoid his blade, cutting none of them. This blade was chosen as the very sharpest of the two.
I believe that it is possible to sharpen your soul with God´s words of advice, to completely be able to avoid most conflicts in life, at least with the help of the Holy Spirit. Either you avoid the evil and wickedness, overcome them, or they purposefully avoid you, maybe both. Truly with God´s help you can prevent the burgeoning onslaught of temptations that might lead to adverse conditions or even your own demise. Does the Spirit of God sometimes come into your life, when instant decision-making is most critical? Seek God´s love instantly, as He is always willing to accept you, to change and mold your heart into something better than what you are.
How sharp is your soul to be able to discern between good judgment and bad decision making? Have you ever been saved in the "Nick of Time"? In times past, I have been about to cross a very busy street, where I live, and the crossing point is directly in a very bad and long curve. There is a beautiful park on one side and stores on the other, with the stop light being three blocks away. Traffic runs fast in both directions, and I really have to get into the middle of the street to be able to see the traffic. Many times I have been crossing, when I have had to back up or immediately go forward to avoid being hit by racing cars going too fast around the curve. Yes, it takes good mental judgement to discern the correct crossing time. Also, as I remember, I have been able over the years to put on the brakes in a car, just in the "Nick of Time" to avoid accidents. Life itself is not an easy passage through time, and it often is not very forgiving. Don´t make the mistake of having a slowed reaction time, when you really need to have your wits about you and make good decisions, even when you least expect it. Like the country song, "Nick of Time", you might just be saved in the nick of time, if you are able to discern with correct judgment. God´s Holy Spirit might just help in your time of need, and as a matter of fact it will, in a split second.
You don´t get the luxury of going through life without affecting the lives of people all around you, especially the younger generation. Who wants to claim the statistic of being the one person, who allowed their stupid bad habits to cost the life of a young person, by being the horrible role model that made some young individual make a very bad decision? Don´t drink alcohol, don´t advertise that you celebrate its use, and don´t try to diminish the truth about its bad effects on the brain, your decision-making process, and of course the influence it has on weak-minded individuals, especially like the younger generation. Alcohol and drugs are deadly and corrupt the mind, body, and soul. It has been scientifically proven that it takes some time for the brain to be able to regenerate neurons after too much alcohol. I might correctly assume that even a little alcohol slows down your reaction time. The sad thing is that the bad effects are degenerative and progressively worse over time. Maybe you can find God´s love, just in the "Nick of Time".
