In our school MS. 890, we prepare each student from all classes to compete in the Spelling bee. This ceremony takes place inside of our gymnatorium , every student competes in this competition and only the winner, as well as the runner up of each class gets to participate in the real thing. The winners of the spelling bee, may go on to compete in a city-wide spelling bee and get the opportunity to play against other students statewide and, hopefully, even nationals. Here are the three champions of our spelling bee, Lillian Byrne who got first place, Eshal Babrak who got second place and Waseem Boutahar in third with our runner up Mehzabin Rahman in 4th. We have interviewed the winner Lillian Byrne.
We asked her how she felt after winning and she said that she feels good and relieved but she also felt nervous to continue in the Borough Spelling Bee. She also said she had trouble with a couple words, one being the word “perpendicularly”.
Lillian Byrne, Spelling Bee Winner
Spelling Bee Interview with Lillian Byrne, continued…
Sophia: How did you feel when you won?
Lillian:I felt relieved that it was over, Although I am nervous with continuing onto the Borough Bee
Samyra:Did you have difficulty spelling a word?
Lillian: The word Perpendicularity was difficult for me to spell.
Sophia: In what ways have you practiced for the spelling bee?
Lillian: I got a packet that had all the words and studied them repeatedly.
Samyra:Did you think the Spelling bee was fair to everyone?
Lillian:I think the spelling bee was kind of unfair because most of the younger were allowed to spell a word more than once.
