Are you caught up in the addictive grip of certain games that you just can't seem to stop playing? Don't worry, because you're not alone—I've been there too. In fact, a significant number of people find themselves addicted to popular games like Roblox, Minecraft, Fortnite, Call of Duty, and many more.
While some individuals may not be concerned about their social life and have no desire to stop gaming excessively, others genuinely care about maintaining a balance. They want to break free from the hold of video games and engage in other fulfilling activities. It's important to note that overcoming addiction doesn't mean you have to give up playing games altogether, but rather finding a healthier balance.
During an interview, student, Aliyah Charles shared her perspective on the topic of game addiction:
J: Are you addicted to games?
A: Yes, I am.
J: What does it feel like? Is it stressful?
A: Yeah, especially when I end up missing out on my homework.
J: Do you want to try and stop?
A: No, I don't.
J: And why is that?
A: Because I genuinely enjoy playing video games.
J: Do you think you'll ever grow out of it?
A: Yeah, eventually.
J: Do you think that will be soon?
A: No, not really.
J: And why is that?
A: Because I'm still young.
J: Do you play a lot of video games?
A: Yes, I do.
J: Have you ever missed any homework because of video games?
A: Yes, I have.
Aliyah is so honest and knows herself well! Her answers showed how she feels about being addicted to games. She enjoys playing them, even if it sometimes makes her stressed about missing homework. Right now, she doesn't want to stop playing games because they make her happy. She thinks she'll grow out of the addiction eventually, but maybe not for a while since she's still young. Aliyah's story shows that game addiction can be complicated and everyone has their own perspective when they love playing games.
