Matilda: The Musical, an Update

By Willa McKain

For the first time in several years, MS890 has decided to bring back one of their most beloved things, the musical. In the past, they have done musicals like Seussical: The Musical and this year they’re bringing it back with Matilda: The Musical. The musical is being run by Ms. Russo, Mx. Zweig, and Ms. Sass -who is choreographing the dances in the musical. If you don’t know the plot of the adored children’s book by Roald Dahl turned into a movie in 1996 recently turned into a musical, it’s about a neglected child prodigy named Matilda Wormwood who has telekinetic powers that make her a target of her bullying principal, Miss Trunchbull, as the kids fight back realizing that they’ve been stomped on for too long. To get an update on the upcoming project, I interviewed people who are acting in Matilda: The Musical.

The first person I interviewed was Aedan Elstein from class 704. This is what he said.

W: Who do you play in the musical?

A: Mr. Wormwood, the father of Matilda.

W: How has the process been so far?

A: So far, it’s been very fun. I just like acting a lot. I like playing characters and giving joy to others.

W: When will we be able to see the production?

A: They generally said around June.

Another person I interviewed who is in the musical was Christmairy Liranzo from class 704.

W: Who do you play in the musical?

C: Hortensia

W: How is the routine for going in on a Wednesday?

C: We walk into the library, we eat a snack, we start by singing the songs, and then we practice the lines.

Even though we haven’t heard any official news about when the production will take place, look out for the musical!
