Play-Time Problems

By Jannat Kamal

In the beginning of the school year, we had plenty of recess equipment for everyone to enjoy. However, as time went on, students started losing some of the equipment, which caused us to have only three balls left to play with. This sad situation left some students with nothing to play with, either because there was no equipment left or because their own equipment was stolen by other students.

The school has not been able to purchase new equipment despite the low supply. It's so important for the school to invest in more equipment, not just balls, but also items like tennis rackets and baseball bats. Some students have different preferences and enjoy playing sports like tennis, hockey, or baseball instead of traditional ball games. Having a variety of equipment, the school can make sure that we have options to choose from during recess.

Right now, some students are forced to bring their own equipment, but there's always a risk of losing or damaging it. Buying more equipment is the right thing to do because everyone would have a chance to participate in fun and active play without feeling bored or left out.

During interviews with students, their frustration was obvious. One student that I had interviewed had said that, “It is annoying because many people always have to stand around and there's nothing to do as we have no equipment and the last bit of equipment we have, there's always someone throwing it over the fence leaving us with no equipment”. Another person added “Annoyed, cause whenever I would want to play with my friends, there's no equipment so we’d just have to sit and do nothing.”

In the end, both of these students are explaining that the school needs to get more recess equipment to play with cause there’s never any left to play with. If we get more options the school can ensure that every student can participate, have fun, and stay active during their playtime. It's time to swing into action and resolve this playtime problem!
