How amazing has the after-school NIA program led by Mr. Trevor has been for us? We can't help but feel grateful for all the memories we've made, the classes we've
taken, and the talents we've discovered through this program. Imagine the vibrant art classes where our creativity soared, or the fashion design class that turned us into fashion designers. Or the cooking class where we made foods from scratch, from desserts to main courses.
We've learned so much in the STEM and coding sessions, unlocking our potential in the world of technology and inspiring us to shape the future. Not only did the martial arts classes keep us fit, but they also taught us discipline and respect. And let's not forget the gaming club, where we bonded over friendly competitions and honed our teamwork and strategic thinking skills. The cooking classes took us on a delicious adventure, turning us into aspiring chefs, and the boba tea making workshop was an absolute blast.
But the best part? The friendships we've formed. NIA has been a place where we found our tribe, shared our passions, and laughed until our bellies hurt. These bonds extend far beyond the program itself, enriching our entire school community.
We owe a huge shout out to the teachers and group leaders Andy, Sarah, Ro, Ali, David, Mandy, Wendy, Tia, Zoe, Nia and everyone we forgot to mention. They have created an extraordinary environment for us. They've made after school fun and exciting. Our hearts are bursting with appreciation for the joy, fun, and learning that has made this after-school program an unforgettable chapter in our lives.

Light has recently been shed on some of the students' other favorite NIA clubs. One of their favorites is Gamers Group. Gamers Group is a Voice of Choice Friday option. Voice of Choice Friday is where students get to choose which activity they would like to participate in. Some options include Team Sports, where people who chose to take part in it go to the gym where you play sports or just walk around and Visual Art.
In Gamers Group, people who signed up to go travel upstairs to find a Nintendo Switch and a PlayStation 4. Over on the Nintendo Switch, you can play games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe where you can race others with various characters from franchises owned by Nintendo and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate where you can fight agaInst each other with characters from different Nintendo franchises like Link, Zelda, Ganon, and Sheik from the Legend of Zelda franchise and Mario, Luigi, Waluigi, Wario, Princess Peach, Bowser, etc. Another option for a console you can play on in Gamers Group is the PlayStation 4 where you can play games like NBA 2K. That’s all for NIA in a Flash! Stay tuned for it next month!
MS890 has had an NIA program for a while now but new activities in NIA have been produced to make staying in school after hours to feel like, well less like staying in school after hours. Students have different favorite NIA Clubs. In this issue we will highlight Cooking Clubs run by Ms. Zoe and Ms. Gerard..
In cooking we don’t just make food. While we’ve been in the Cooking Club, we have also made lip scrubs and room sprays. We have also made things like acai bowls, smoothies, chocolate covered strawberries, healthier (and savory) waffles, etc. Cooking helps us learn healthier ways to have things we love and helps us experiment with different foods to broaden our knowledge of foods and taste.
The most recent thing that we have done in cooking was make lip scrubs and chocolate covered strawberries. Every Tuesday, there is always something new to do where we can all help out to make a healthier alternative to a food or make something that could help us take care of ourselves like lip scrubs and lip balms.
Another favorite activity at NIA is art. Art in NIA is run by Ms. Mandy, Ms. Thea, and Mrs. Wendy. In art, we have a lot of materials that help us with creating whatever we want. There are many canvases, paintbrushes, beads, strings, etc. In art, we usually have a prompt like a piece of work we have to recreate and make into our own. Art is also an option of Voice of Choice Friday’s. On Friday, we can do any of the activities from Gamers Group, where we play video games on the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation, to Team Sports, where we use the school recess area to walk around and use basketballs, footballs, etc. On Voice of Choice Fridays we can do anything that we would like to with the supplies that we have.
Till next time!
