Surrealist collage

The fist part of this assignment was to go through national geographic magazines and cut things out for a collage. I had trouble thinking of a scene to create so I just cut out random things I thought were cool and glued them on. The next part of the assignment was to make a painting of the collage. The thing that we were practicing by doing this was matching colors my mixing paint. I had to try and recreate the colors from the collage to make the painting look the same. Since I didn't have a background in my collage, I picked a color for the painting to have as the background instead of tan. I don't really like the color I chose but it looks fine. I had some trouble with the flower in the top right corner because I couldn't recreate the texture on it and I had to do a lot of layers of yellow. My favorite part of the painting is the car because it was fun to focus on the details and all the different grays. It doesn't really look the same as the one in the collage, but it's close enough. I also like how the cloud turned out. If I did this project again, I would cut out a background from a magazine instead of leaving it as the paper and I would have something interesting happening like a waterfall coming out the window of a house. I didn't have as much time as I would have liked to look through the magazines and think of an idea.
