The prompt that used for this drawing was to draw a fairy with two heads, four arms, and twelve legs. I started out with a pencil sketch of the basic figure but when I got to the legs I had no idea how to approach it. I tried drawing human legs but it didn't look look right or fit into the drawing. Luckily the prompt never said the legs had to be human so I changed them to octopus legs. Once I had the basic idea, I drew it again with all of the details on watercolor paper. The fairy has four arms so I thought it would be boring to have them all just down at her sides. I had one arm throwing an apple up in the air and the other holding one so I made the fairy sit under a tree. I started out with water color and then went over it with pens.I also used colored pencil on the legs to add shadows.
The elements of art that are in this are line, color, texture, and shape. Line is the pen I used and color is the watercolors. I used texture on the tree that the fairy is leaning on. I used shape because I put a moon and a sun on the fairy's foreheads.
The principles of design that I used are balance, rhythm, and emphasis. There is balance because the fairy has two arms on each side and two heads. The rhythm is in the twelve legs that are all basically the same and in the pattern on the tree. There is emphasis on the fairy because it is in the middle of the page and the background is very simple.
I like how this piece turned out because it is in the style that I had been working on drawing in over the summer. It is interesting to look at and I enjoyed making it. When I took a picture of my drawing it looked really yellow and dark but I didn't know how to fix it so the picture above this looks a little weird.
